Canelo Alvarez is such a diva. It's unbelievable what fame and money did to this man. It's a cautionary tale at this point. When someone takes this position and feels the need to tell the public this same thing over and over about how he's going to CHOOSE not to fight the best fighter he can face or the fight everyone wants because he basically can do what he wants and beats to the sound of his own drum etc it's so annoyingly pathetic. At the end of the day you're just a boxer Saul. You didn't cure cancer or discover antibiotics. Something that would merit this sort of attitude. Nobody cares that you can make your own choices or call the shots. All the fans and public cares about is seeing the best fight the best and when you actively avoid doing this and say these same excuses you earn the hate and disrespect the boxing world has developed for you these last several years. Key word was EARNED! You did this to yourself. I was a massive Canelo fan and even had f***ing tshirts from his website and met him on stage back when he fought Lara. His attitude towards the boxing fans by denying them a fight they want to see is pathetic all because he wants spectacles where he can showcase himself against guys he knows he can beat and trying to sell it like it's an actual fight. There are four guys you can basically guarantee he will stay away from like the plague. This is fine but not when you're hoarding titles and making claims of being the p4p best. He's already taken a big fat L to Benavidez in a big way with all this BS and knowing Canelo this does bother him and I mean a lot. So again you did it to yourself. Don't fight him at this point you've already lost even if you fought him and won at this point. Your attitude towards it the last several years has turned everyone who loved you against you. Just retire already. Dude sickens me.

If you mean REAL on the level of Floyd vs Hernandez real? No gimmicks, wait until the guy is burned out, old, drunk, weight bullied or weight drained, basically tailored fights? I would say closest is Danny Jacob with an asterisk and maybe Billy Joe Saunders.

Boxing is a sport of competition and yet every dam article is about some non competitive fight with a named actor being rammed down our throat like Adam Driver.

I don't mean to disrespect guys that like this sort of thing but these types of exhibitions are pure entertainment in the category of Butterbean, they mean nothing to the competitive sport of boxing.

If promoters are this hard up for content they should finance Atomic Blond vs John Wick. It's cheaper to make, 10 times more entertaining, $10.00 tickets and all without diluting REAL competitive sports.
Why are you mentioning Floyd and Paul?

Floyd is retired and Paul is a gimmick. Canelo is the face of the sport.

Canelo is a creation of Golden Boy productions. His head has gotten so big that now he thinks he calls all the shots in boxing. This means that he gets to avoid all of the top fighters who are close to his division because he knows he can't beat them or doesn't want to work hard fighting them. I hope that he gets humbled down the line. Boxing needs the best fights to be made when they can and when fighters are in their primes. Canelo is against all of this.

Canelo is not in his prime which is why his opponent selection process has become a lot less risky. There’s been a risk management approach for years now, but it’s way more deliberate now.

              Great post.

I remember watching Saul come up and thinking he had a shot at being a really great fighter. I pulled hard for him against Floyd. He got trounced and I realized that they hype didn't match the reality. But still gave him props for fighting Floyd and trying.

Then he started whining about weight classes, cherry picking, he aged Golovkin out and still lost two fights to him, yet got the obvious "Oscar is making sure I am the face of boxing" decisions. Can't let him lose, because that will damage his brand. He has a few losses more than his record shows for sure. And if those losses are on his record, he isn't "the face of boxing"....but he would have alot more respect.

And from there it has just gone downhill. The total lack of humility, the incredible arrogance...beating smaller guys on fight night, beating a way past it and recently brutalized Kov who was there for a check and saying he is "chasing greatness". Sitting on belts for years and blatantly running from Benavidez. Getting beat down by Bivol and acting like he won, then acting like he wants the rematch, when he obviously didn't.

PED's. A total lack of respect for the sport and his fans. Making it "the Canelo clown hour" fighting bad fighters and pulling guys up multiple weight classes. and contributing massively to the death of the sport. And not. giving. one. ****.

He is honestly IMO a cancer on the sport and has been for a long time. And he has hundreds of millions and could care less. He cares about two things. Fighting guys he knows he will beat and money. Which would be ok if he just dropped the belts and the "Im fighting for legacy" rhetoric, and just go fight whoever you want for money.

The majority of his career is just a overhyped well planned farce.

The only thing that I care to hear about or from Canelo is " I've signed to fight David Benavidez " , and I guess that I'd settle for "I've signed to fight David Morrell" as a distant second place consolation prize. Other than that , I could give less than a fizzuck what he's got going on.

Quit holding back , tell us how you really feel... Lol.
I agree, Canelo has become a real disappointment at this stage of his career it is just about the money , as if he doesn't already have enough to last for generations.
