Assuming that Canelo is a great businessman, which he is, the only logical reason for Canelo to reject that kind of money is the risk factor.

First, before I go any further, there's no evidence that Canelo gives a shyt if he doesn't gets credit for beating guys he is supposed to beat. Canelo didn't care if he got credit for beating up Ryder, Mungia, Khan and the list goes on, it's a nonsense excuse up there with "I don't fight Mexicans."

No, the risk is not if he wins but if he doesn't win....because in that scenario the flood gates will open, every fight revisited and his legacy will be damaged. Similar to Wilder (with much better opponent selection) Canelo may believe he's better off avoiding big money, big risk fights and make up for it with a few more (can't lose) fights and retire.

In the end, I believe Canelo will retire before he fights Crawford, Morrell, Benavidez, Bivol or anyone he didn't hand pick.
Crawford ain’t that much of a threat though cmon man. We all saw the Madrimov fight. Madrimov won 5 rounds unquestionably. Bud won 7 that was an accurate and fair score imo. That’s bud against a guy who isn’t even the best at 154. Ofc there’s always the chance he could lose but it’s not even close to the same risk as Bivol/beterbiev/morrel/benevidez. No one thinks bud could stand a chance against those guys yet everyone screams for canelo to fight them. Then they also think crawford can beat him lol. It’s just not logical imo

What confuses me even more is the sanctioning bodies allowing Canelo to prove to the world that the WBA, WBC, WBO have rules that don't apply if you make enough money. At some point fans will admit that they belts can be bought (likely after Canelo retires) and when they do, they'll question the need for their existence.

Then there's Alvarez himself, saying David doesn't bring anything but 25lbs. And what exactly does noob Berlanga bring? The truth is that Benavidez brings one hell of a difficult fight to Canelo and possibly defeats him. Berlanga brings inexperience and a sure victory for Canelo.
That was well said! Good post!

As long as both fighters stay active the fight still possible imo, Canelo may be 6 years older but he doubles or triples Bennys experience fighting at the highest level, lets not even begin with each fighter style, you know damn well Canelo struggles with Elite Movers( Floyd-Bivol) not so much with flatfooted pressure punchers like Benny. Even with difference in size and age its huge step up for Benavides more than it is for the ginger. As for the crazy money demand, even Benavidez promoter said isn't that crazy figure to reach and with Turki The Dictator now in the scene everything is possible.

Btw, I wouldn't call that Bivol offer a 'lowball' considering it was his highest purse ever back then. Plus you forgot the fact Bivol wanted 168 undisputed not running it back at 175 like Canelo originally wanted.
Now, all you have to do is convince Canelo of all that drivel, because he seems to doubt it. Turki has expressed that Alvarez is asking the world to fight Benavidez. Just because he's rich doesn't mean that he'll bow to Canelo's will.

And the first fight vs Canelo made Bivol more money than he'd made before. The offer for the second fight was the same. Now, given that Bivol defeated Alvarez, why would he accept the same purse for the rematch? Saul knew that Dimitru would be insulted by that offer and decline it, and when he offered to fight him @ 168, Cinnamon would have none of it.
