I'm not saying she's Ali but look at the state of the Taylor / Serrano fights. They're supposed to be P4P, it's shockingly bad.
I don't see a huge difference between Taylor/Serrano/Shields, except that Serrano can stop her opponents and the others can't. Skye Nicolson looks pretty sharp too and rarely loses a round. There's a few contenders I'm keeping an eye on as well. There is some depth in women's boxing, but not at 154 and up. There's pretty much only Shields and Marshall. And remember, those two by themselves are more than a full percent of the active boxers competing at 154 and up.

And it's easy to show off your more advanced skills when you have no competition. It's easy to walk people into traps when they just come forward winging slow and sloppy punches with no head movement.

We are all compulsive creatures that are driven. It is perfectly fine to be "driven to succeed" and take on the role of the Heel. I believe this is what Shield does and she gets people motivated to see her "learn her lesson." That to me is life and it is good. Then we have fighters that demonstrate integrity... this also drives people. This whole understanding really comes through in Wrassling. The fighters take on charactures and the fans get behind it. But it exists in boxing as well.

Unfortunately we have to know these are all simply acts... At the end of the day? Gatti and Monzon were two fighters who were very well respected, but get past the facade and they both did some bad things... Ali, before he was venerated was thought to be an uppity you know what...

There has always been a big Irish community in NYC. A lot of them actually.

She talks trash to get attention but cries when trash come back to her. Now she has a pity party going on and just look at all the attendees.

She's a lot more fun to discuss than to watch in the ring but that isn't saying a lot.

Most knowledgeable fans would agree that the single most important factor in measuring greatness in boxing is the level of competition faced/defeated. You acknowledge that Shields stands apart from her competition because she actually appears to know how to fight a bit as opposed to fighting like a rock 'em, sock 'em robot. To me, this fact is far more of an indictment of Shields' low level of competition than any kind a validation of her superior skills and attributes. The fact that Katie Taylor and Amanda Serrano went through a drag out war for 10 rounds, in my view, validated both fighters as elites in their sport, because, with few exceptions, both had been dominant champions in their divisions up to that point. Had either of them walked through or danced around and picked apart the other with ease, that would have exposed the loser as a bit of a fabrication. I watched Claressa Shields recently win a women's LHW title from the pudgy 5'6', 175lb (200lbs on fight night) Vanessa Lepage-Joanisse and found myself cringing and curling into a ball, ashamed that I had created a world where such a thing could be witnessed.

Ditto. Claressa KNOWS how to fight. Bobbing, weaving, shoulder rolling…it’s evident in both her last fight (which wasn’t all that long to be honest) and in the Savannah Marshall fight. You don’t win two gold medals back to back and call it a fluke.

If they were in the same weight class, I’d also pick Claressa over Katie Taylor as well. Both two time gold medallists but Katie fades late and Claressa looks like she is driven animalistically to win. I personally like her. The woman speaks her mind.

Her detriment in my humble opinion is that she pays too much attention to her detractors online and addressing/answering to them. She would best be suited to just reading them, using it as fuel, and answering them VAGUELY in post fight interviews. Success is the best revenge.

Claressa needs a rival or someone to push her, unfortunately the other GWOATS are WAY BELOW her weight class. Disregarding Claressa’s stake to her last title acquired, I’d honestly pick her to beat both Amanda and KT if they were in the same weight class. Unfortunately, outside of KT and Amanda hanging on too long and blowing up past their prime, they’re not going to end up fighting Claressa…an eternal what if.
