Comments Thread For: Gervonta Davis' co-trainer: Tank vs. Shakur Stevenson isn't a 50-50 fight

Gervonta Davis and Shakur Stevenson have a few things in common: They're both undefeated -- Davis is 30-0 (28 KOs) while Stevenson is 22-0 (10 KOs). They're both lightweight titleholders, Davis holding the WBA belt and Stevenson the WBC. And they're both in search of their next opponent, which has many wondering about a potential fight between these two American talents.

So? Why are they not fighting?

The projected Shakur vs Zepeda is still far from being signed. Both sides haven't even talked on official basis.. Bottom line is Tank still has plenty of time to make offers to Stevenson.

Settle it in the ring and stop using each others name for attention. I don't want to hear anything from either one except "The fight is signed". They should be embarrassed that they haven't fought already. A few years back everyone was excited about another " Four Kings " type situation , these dudes have been a letdown. The only one honestly willing to fight everyone is the nutjob on PEDS and DRUGS. The other three have been more than happy to text and talk about it , Haney has outgrown the competition , The Nut may never fight again, but Tank and Shakur have no valid reasons for not fighting each other.

I’d favor shakur purely based on what he brings to the table is going to make tank rely heavily on the punch power equalizer. A boring fight in which tank chases shakur for 12 rounds, to the chanting of boos and most likely loses on the cards. Shakur would make this a slow technical fight which does not suit gervonta at all.

All these 2 do is talk, talk and talk. In the meanwhile they're both refusing to fight each other and Stevenson is dragging his feet signing the contract for Zepeda. It almost like they don't want real fights or challenge themselves...

Very easy to say by a guy who will be sitting in the corner.

As time passes, I'm more and more impressed with Tank's abilities, less and less with Shakur's. On the other hand, Shakur seems genuinely willing to fight anyone, Tank not so much.

Maybe that's just a result of Tank being the a-side against almost anyone and being a genuine draw. Shakur loses luster and drawing power every time he steps into the ring.

That's probably why these media people are not covering the Shakur/Tank completely.
They assumed the Zepeda vs Shakur is on the bag. It is not. Last I've heard was Zepeda wanted ample rest from his last fight.
Then the negotiation has to commence and nobody knows when and it's not expected to be a walk in the park.

The assumption that Tank is faster and will eventually catch Shakur is based on "he's done it to everybody so far." If he thought it would be as easy as beating B Level Frank Martin, he would take the fight. There is actually no reason to avoid the fight. Shakur is a free agent. It's Tank's best available payday. He doesn't like the risk. He may wait around until next year for Old Loma.
