Mbilli checks all of the boxes: ranked #1 contender, check. Holes in his game, check. Couldn't stop or drop a one-armed, 38 year-old, so not THAT good, check and double check!
At some point the past fights and defeats will catch up to a fighter and the will itself will not even matter, so hope that this effort goes down as a snap shot of a great fighter who faced defeat only on score cards. If they had judged the fight on " Heart " alone Dervy would have won but that is not how a fight is judged on score cards. let him go the way of 3G but he wont there is still a few more dollars to be offered and more damage to be done to his head and body.
Am I the only one seeing that Mbilli definitely has some things to work on. Derevyanchenko probably wins with both arms working.
Probably not in Canada with some of their shenanigans but I was thinking the same last night. Tessitore and Bradley didn't point it out but there were a few times when Mbilli was caught and buzzed (and I'm not talking about the right hook to his knee cap). Mbilli commits so much to his offense that there are some glaring defensive holes.
I like Mbilli but there are definitely things he needs to work on, I'm just not sure we will ever see improvement. I feel for Derevyanchenko, the guy is a warrior but he has no luck in the ring, and even worse, he has always been the B-side. A few of those Ls against top guys probably become W's if he has the promotion backing him....
This entire card was nothing but a showcase for the A side fighters. Mbilli was overhyped the entire night and Bradley and Tessitore had the ******ity to say that Canelo would want nothing to do with this fighter that couldn't finish off a literal one armed Chenko. Get literally tfoh
Sergiy tough as nails. Hurt Mbilli a couple times which was surprising.
I hope he retires after this fight. Guy is a fan favorite and a true warrior.
You beat me to it. I’d like to see him retire before he accumulates too much damage. He’s got nothing left to prove. Very tough break in this fight to lose the use of an arm, but the man has no reverse gear in his transmission, and he goes out on his shield.
Derevy - good dude, good fighter, and it is great that boxing has guys like these that prove to be a test for those that "may" be great. I hope he has a nice house, some money in the bank, and no brain damage.
