I'm talking about a 9-9 round being incorrect.

Say there's a KD but the guy that got the KD was otherwise dominated , that wouldn't be a 9-9 round instead of a 10-8 round , it would be a 10-9 round. It's not mandatory for a judge to give a 10-8 round to the guy getting a KD , but it's common practice because almost always the guy also wins the round , it's one point for the KD and one for the round , unless he's getting pounded the whole round and scores a flash KD , then it's fair to give the point for the round to the other guy , making it 10-9 not 9-9. The system is called The Ten Point Must System because there must be a 10 score.

The first KD should have been 10-9 , not 9-9 if you had Ortiz dominating the round and it was a b.s. slip knockdown. You are adding a point to Ortiz , not deducting one from Bohachuk, rounds are never 9-9. Even when there's a point deduction on the winner of the round it's not scored 9-9, first the winner gets his 10 , then you apply the deduction and it becomes a 9. Look at the scorecards , you'll see a space for the point deduction in between the round score and the total score.

A round can end 9-9 if a boxer is knocked down but then lands the better punches and creates more damage for the rest of the round. A 10-8 round can be scored even without a knockdown if the round is completely dominated and one-sided by a fighter.

              1. If a boxer dominates the round but also gets knocked down, the judges score it 9-9.
