Comments Thread For: Marvin Hagler, Terence Crawford, and the importance of knowing when to settle down

Any comparison between Terence Crawford and Marvin Hagler extends beyond just their ability to switch seamlessly from southpaw to orthodox. As well as that unique gift, Crawford shares with Hagler a hardiness and a spitefulness, not to mention a darkness, the kind found only in the eyes of boxers for whom fighting is second nature.

Today's writers are an embarrassment, seriously comparing Hagler to Crawford. Hagler fought the murderous row of his ERA, can someone please tell me who Crawford has exactly fought?

Hagler was a killer, no doubt about that. Too bad he checked out early. If Crawford fights Canelo, he can't afford to get caught. Too much weight difference.

I hear you. You also have to admit, Bud fought the best of his era, or at least, the best that would fight him. Aside from Pacquiao and Mikey Garcia, who did But miss throughout his career?

How about all the WW at the time he moved up? He priced himself out constantly and used that as an excuse while everyone else beat each other up. He waited until every was at the end of their run before he considered fighting them. Not too mention he ducked Ennis and has no desire fighting the best and is only looking for a money grab with Canelo.

I absolutely disagree. In fact, there is a comparison to be made. There is a stark similarity between Hagler and Crawford in their approach, ethic, mindset and of course, switch-hitting ability. If anything, Bud might have two great performances left in him before Father Time takes from him. He'd be well advised to not fall into the unification trap, but rather go for middleweight. If he can stay lower in weight (like Ray Robinson) and annex a major World title at 160lbs, a Canelo bout may make sense as a card-on-the-table final career bout. But if I'm anywhere near right, Crawford has to fight again within six months.

Bud should have gone up to 154 for Jermell when that feud was simmering.

                  Floyd would have.

Bud was begging to fight those PBC guys for years. It wasn’t him waiting, it was them waiting. We all know this !

I do want him to fight Boots though.
