Comments Thread For: U.S. debut Alalshikh card could've used a few more tweaks

Boxing fans recognize the value of Saturday's Los Angeles card - the U.S. debut show from Saudi Arabia power broker Turki Alalshikh. But for the sport to truly connect, it needs to resonate with the mainstream audience, and that effort has thus far been a mixed bag saddled by questionable scheduling, iffy local market knowledge and lacking personalities.

Great long-term value despite modest expectations

Every fighter's trying to steal the show. Boxing wins

This is a horrible take on one of the most interesting cards on American soil in several years.

It's a shame the Ortiz-Tsyzu fight isn't happening. That was the best fight on the show.

This is still one of the best cards of the year, but on paper has less 50/50 fights than the previous Saudi cards and while I like the main event, a lot of casuals won't care about it.

It's still best Card in the US this year.
Tank vs Shakur should be next for Turki since Canelo won't fight Benavidez.

Agree. Micro-criticisms when this will likely be the best card this year in the USA. Boxing is in a terrible state in the USA if you gauge 'state' by stardom. You have Canelo, Tank and Ryan who are head and shoulders above anyone else.
B level fame would be Benavidez,, Crawford, Pitbull (maybe), Spence, Haney (maybe) Teo (maybe)
C level - Bam, Oscar Valdez (maybe) Thurman, Plant, Ramirez (Maybe) Andy Ruiz, Anderson (maybe)

So on that reckoning they two b level and two c level fighters all in good matchups - short of having Tank, Ryan or Canelo as a headliner it would be difficult for it to be much better.

I keep saying that Turkie is not very knowledgeable in the sport of boxing and more of a fan. Some of the fights on this card make no sense.

He’s putting on a show in Cali aka little Mexico and has Crawford and his unknown opponent as the headline. This show should have had a Mexican star as the headline.

Then Turkie is chasing Crawford v Canelo, when he should have pit his money in Canelo v Benevidez and Crawford v Boots.

If Canelo v Crawford happens, you have two outcomes. 1. Crawford loses and he uses the excuse that he bit off more than he can chew fighting at 168. If Crawford wins, people will say Canelo is old and only a smitten of his former self. In other words, it’s a ****** fight.

Turkie acts more like a trust baby who inherits a lot of money and goes spending sprees spending someones else’s money like a drunken sailor.

Inshallah, Turkie will work with someone not named Hearn or Warren who are in his pockets .

Typical small-minded thinking by the so-called “boxing community.” One of the biggest U.S. boxing cards in recent history with the arguable top p4p fighter, a former heavyweight champion, one of the most popular Mexican fighters in the game and an up and coming prospect who was an Olympic gold medalist - and a card that features fighters from a wide range of promotional companies . An

And STILL the “boxing purists” are whining and nitpicking. Talk about casting pearls before swine!

This is one of the best cards we've seen in a while, and way better than anything not coming from Turki. Someone is feeling threatened, it seems.
