Somewhere in France, a kid is reading a text saying, "Good luck, sweetie! Your father and I are so proud of you!"

Across the ring is a 30-year-old man with a 100% KO rate

I don't think that it's cool at all for professionals to be fighting in the Olympics. It's for amateur fighters , let them have their glory.
That said some countries take great care of their athletes and some don't. Maybe that needs to be leveled out.

Exactly. This is their time. You don't back high school after you graduate

I'm just wondering, what kind of international committee thought this was a good idea and WHY?

Agree. I hate this muddying the waters in today's world bullshit.

It's not right but, to be honest, it just devalues it for me.

I look forward to the boxing at the Olympics precisely because it's a different sport to the pro ranks. The Olympics is the pinnacle for the amateurs.

If Jalolov wins the gold medal it will count for nothing in my opinion.

It's heading down the route of tennis, golf and soccer. Sports where the Olympics is a relatively minor event.

That's a great question. I don't understand how we have an NBA ALL-STAR TEAM playing in the Olympics either. I feel like the whole point of the Olympics is that it is about amateurs and sports for the sake of pure competition , not business. Maybe it got changed because some countries game the system by paying their Olympic Athletes ,and training is their full time job , so they might as well be professionals, competing against teenagers who struggle to compete and train at a high level.

That's a great point. Back in the day, 18 was the cut-off because it was meant to showcase who the best child amateurs in the world were, then those star athletes transition to be groomed for the pros.

I think what we're seeing is the culmination of all these countries trying to one up each other, and now, you can be 40 and a 20-year veteran and Olympian.

Is this not still an AMATEUR competition?

I love Pacman, but when he petitioned to join.. ugh, so cringe
