Great fight! Good match up. You gotta go with Cruz, but... I wouldn't sleep on Valenzuela.

Rayo-De Los Santos was going to be trouble, DLS was a late replacement and better than advertised. Such an underrated matchup at the time imo. As is this fight here. The more I think about this fight, the better it gets

I think the card had been moved around and ended up being on a Sunday night. Valenzuela came in looking lethargic with bags under his eyes (I know he always kinda looks like that)...but the energy of it all was off for him. Coupled with the fact that DLS is good. Despite that, he still got his own KD and contributed to a hell of a 'closet classic' type of fight.

Comes out an takes the L to Colbert but it was a quality effort and I thought he should have been given the decision. But irrespective of the decision, I remember thinking his effort and attention to detail in that fight stabilized his career. And I didn't even realize he won the rematch so that's huge.

Now I read he's got a personal chip on his shoulder for Pitbull because Cruz's family was mocking him after his KO loss. That's sounds like it's cutting deep.

It's hard to stop thinking Cruz will just land some huge bomb over the top at some point, especially with how Rayo leaves himself open. extended combos, 1-2 punches too many and he will be fully exposed at times. I can just see Cruz throwing a big right hand while Rayo is planting hi feet trying to wrap shots around the guard or do the body. He really winds it up when he's doing that.

But if team Rayo approaches it just trying to be faster I think he can do something. OK, he had some trouble with DLS who everyone now knows has legit explosive speed, Colbert also fast....I have to like that Rayo's handspeed was comparable against those two. He may be able to force Cruz to work harder on defense and not just be able to wait to counter like he could do against Tank. Tank low volume, Rayo should be able to bring more than that?

Cruz is looking beastly lately but I can't remember the names of the guys he fought outside of Rolly who is really bad. Zepeda KO's Cabrera in a cpl rounds. I almost want to say Rayo has been facing better comp recently

You have got to be joking. Pit Bull is gonna roll over him like a tank rolling over a plastic cup. I doubt it goes beyond five rounds.

Rolling with Rayo here can't wait to see how he looks at 140 and with Robert Garcia in his corner.

Solid breakdown. I also think Rayo might be more of a live dog than people give him credit for being. Cruz is tough, but there's certain physical disadvantages that he has to give up.
