Just read the news, think it was good thing for Benavidez to have waited till now to see which is the better direction for his career.

All Benavidez did was wait for Canelo to make his decision. Essentially, Canelo made Bena's decision for him. David is in his current situation because he allows Cash-Cow Canelo to take the lead. Probably the only way he gets Canelo to fight him is to take punishment against the winner of that fight.
If he wins, Canelo will likely make it a CW for David’s belts.
If he loses, Canelo will offer him a 168lb title shot, forcing him to drop down.
Either way David will have to drop weight which will make him diminished, especially if he has to get all the way down to 168.

Good on David for not letting Canelo dictate his career. Many fighters make this mistake Khan with Floyd, Brook with Khan, they wait and they wait and half the time they don’t even get the mega fight they wanted.
Benavidez will instead try and carve his own path. Good luck to him.Comment
