Shakur Stevenson's free agency is one of boxing's hot topics, with previous promoters Top Rank, Matchroom Boxing and Oscar De La Hoya's Golden Boy Promotions all thought to be in the running for the Newark star's signature.

Bait? Maybe baiting Stevenson into thinking he can beat Zepeda. Stevenson puts his track shoes on against Zepeda. Let's think about this, Zepeda an all action fighter that can reel in crowds if he gets the right shots, or a boring boxer that can draw fly's to sh**... I wonder who is really getting baited...

Agreed. Zepeda has a much better chance of becoming a star and a cash cow than Stevenson. No matter how accomplished and talented Shakur might be , it's not going to be easy to lose that "boring" tag that he's got now. Boxing fans aren't going to go through another Mayweather and Klitscho type era. Boring doesn't sell anymore. A fan friendly punch throwing machine like Zepeda can interest even casual fans and bring new eyes to the sport. Being Mexican doesn't hurt either. He's got a built in fan base already. Anybody who likes boxing is going to like a guy like Zepeda.

No way is he using Zepeda for anything nefarious. He believes in Zepeda 100% and Zepeda believes in himself 100%. Not every lightweight is going to be able to handle that fighting machine. He is #1 in all organizations. I think he will be champ against someone at 135 for sure. Eric Gomez is the one who nixed Zepeda from the Stevenson fight.

The question I have, (and I'm sure Shakur has the same question) is if Shakur signs with GBP, does he get Zepeda immediately? I don't usually agree with Eddie Hearn, but he made a good point: Oscar says promoters need to work together, then says "If Shakur doesn't sign, no Zepeda!" Very hypocritical!

A three weight champion having to sign with a promoter to fight a belt-less non-draw really highlights how poor the state of boxing is. Dangerous champs gotta beg contenders to fight them and fans are okay with it depending on who the fighter is. The Canelo effect.

i looked at the Zepeda -Cabrera fight again - I don't believe Zepeda can cut off the ring to unload enough combinations to slow Shakur down. More likely Shakur potshots Zepeda and moves first half, enough to slow Zepeda down and then gradually increases the volume the 2nd half to get a narrow but unanimous decision

Zepeda can't get Berenchyk or Tank or Loma - he might as well try against Shakur

Oscar can get a 1 fight deal and a co-promote for a 2nd fight with Shakur,

I don’t even like this premise. It’s up to promoters to line up the most lucrative fights for their clients and it’s up to the fighters and their teams to go out there and win the fights. Zepeda is doing his job so far, he needs dance partners and if they are “bigger fish” than kudos to Golden Boy for reeling them in for him to test himself and dare to be great. I’m tired of hearing people talk about how promoters are getting their fighters beat, etc. It’s a feature not a bug. I’m tired of mismatched bouts and padded records.

Zepeda can get the WBO belt, rather Bob likes it or not, since he's Mando. If Bob wants to keep the WBO in house, they're gonna have to pay Zepeda a pretty penny to step aside.
