  • Comments Thread For: Eddie Hearn: 'Jaron Ennis must unify before facing Crawford at 154'

Promoter Eddie Hearn believes that his fighter Jaron 'Boots' Ennis must look to unify titles in the welterweight division before moving up to junior middleweight to face Terence Crawford.

“The number one priority is to unify the division,” said Hearn.

    Priority for whom, exactly?
If Eddie was thinking about MY priority, he would make the match with Crawford ASAP regardless of the belts.
But what do I know anyway, I'm just the consumer.

In other words, "Boots will be fighting Bud when Bud is just about 40, not a second before."

      Lol.

The number one priority is making sure it looks like we're not waiting for the smoke to clear at 154

The last welterweight champion Hearn promoted was Kell Brook. He fought the who's who and enjoyed a very successful career when he moved up.

I hate how fake boxing is in this way. Hearn knows better

In other (Crawford's) words, Boots must bring something to the table. He has to make himself into a bigger star, and quickly, so there's more commercial value in the match. He gets flak (rightfully so) because he's not fought anyone. So now that Hearn wants to get unifications and have him fight the other top guys in the division, you all want to complain? Bud is on record saying he isn't interested in that fight because as it is, it's not a legacy fight or a money fight. If Boots becomes unified or especially undisputed while Bud is still active, a fight between them makes much more commercial sense, and Boots would become a worthy scalp for the resume. IMO it's the right move, but it's on Hearn to deliver the fights.

Eddy, Eddy, Eddy, Boots. Eddy says this and Eddy says that, Boots beats Ava like the period at the end of the sentence. Eddy: It will happen, wait for it. 5 years later. Wait for it.

Doesn’t sound like a vote of confidence to me. Boots has 32 fights. By the time he unifies the welter division, Bud will be retired. Usually comments like these come from the fighter and his handlers. Hearn is told up front, you want Boots, this is what it takes.
