Comments Thread For: Shakur Stevenson, for better or worse, now controls his own destiny

The mission for Shakur Stevenson on Saturday was clear: win, do so convincingly and, for the love of all that's holy, look good doing it.

I dont mind boring fighters, they can make for great footage when youre trying to explain good defense

I hope for his career though he gets a bit more aggresive, once he loses the belt hes not gonna get a title shot off of very technical wins nobody watches

Most cave men fans prefer the Arturo Gatti bucket of blood and ab eyeball hanging out types. Btw, are any of you couch warriors helping to pay Wilfred Benitez's and Gerald McClellan's bills? Asking for a friend.

The only thing he can't control is his boring "fights" or as he calls them "game of tag". The name of the game is to pity pat and not get pity pat.

Those fighters fought their own style, and pushed their careers past the point of healthy. I do not think they would have been in better shape if the "couch warriors" had ignored their fights completely. Those horrid "couch warriors" were the only reason they got paychecks at all. I do hate hearing about former athletes of any sport dealing with pain, permanent injuries, or having emotional or mental problems from the result of their sport. It is sad. But blaming the fans that make the sport as popular as it is shows some strange priorities.

Personally no. But fans have paid for the fights and some of that money went to Benitez and McClellan and all the other damaged fighters. They could have taken out medical insurance for brain injuries. But, wait! Oh .... there's no insurance company that would insure against that outcome. That right there says it all. All fighters, be it boxers or MMA are participating in a sport that likely leads to brain trauma or worse. If you are unaware of that as a boxer then you need your brain examined (oops)

But, these boxers are aware of the dangers, for the most part so they choose to participate on a risk reward basis - high risk - high reward (hopefully).

So, luckily for me - I enjoy technical fighters - I enjoyed many , but not all, of Rigo's fights. To all those who get angry because they felt they didn't get their pound of flesh from a Stevenson fight I have no sympathy - inform yourselves before spending your hard-earned money. Nobody forces you to buy it.

Zepeda is his mandatory - I could see that getting called and Zepeda will refuse as he's no.1 mandatory to the others - Oscar already hinting they are not going the Stevenson path but prefer Berinchyk

Stevenson has at times been in entertaining fights but the last two have definitely been uninteresting say the least. His only real option for the big fights will be pbc route. If he signs with Hearn he will sink into total oblivion

Wonder if Reebox is still standing behind Shakur
Or have they decided to release him from that sponsorship
