How does Castillo prepare Pacquiao for Cotto?

The problem with Castillo as a sparring partner in terms of emulating Cotto, is that he's too one dimensional. Don't get me wrong, I'm a huge Castillo fan and thought he was one of the great lightweights, but he's a one trick pony compared to Cotto. Cotto's defense is much better, he's able to box, has a better jab and switches effectively between orthodox and soutpaw.

I doubt Castillo can emulate Cotto well outside of the body work.

So outside of being able to throw good body shots, how does Castillo prepare Pacquiao for Cotto?

I disagree that Cotto has a better defense.

Castillo's jab is also good altough not on Cotto's level.

      IMO Castillo is good sparring.

Really? I think Cotto can dodge and slip punches much better than Castillo. Castillo is more of an inside mauler while Cotto is a boxer/puncher.

I guess it's good sparring, but body punching should not be their only concern.

          Yeah.

Cotto is wide open down the middle for the uppercut and in general and this has been going on for years and can't be repaired.
His defense is his weak spot.
Castillo is a smart pressure fighter thus his style puts him in the line to be hit more but his body movement is very good and he slips more punches than gets hit with.He also can smother attacks very good.

They make him emulate Cotto who fights as a pressure fighter at times too.

Cotto can fight on the backfoot though while Castillo can't.

That's my point, Castillo does not give the variety that Cotto brings.

Well it's obvious you'll never gonna find a guy that emulates another guy perfectly.

Make do with what you have.
