  • Comments Thread For: Eddie Hearn Explains Matchroom's Non-Bid on Devin Haney-Sandor Martin

Devin Haney has expressed frustration over the recent purse bid to stage his junior welterweight defense against mandatory challenger Sandor Martin, which drew only one bidder - Top Rank, Martin's promoter - for a figure well under Haney's current earning power.

It's simple, Haney brings nothing to the table.

Haney think he is worth way more than he is. Let's say he won Garcia. What would the Martin purse bid be? Not millions more because its still a fight thats not an easy sell, facts are Haney can't sell like he thinks he can. Should be grateful he got a Garcia payday cause that is the biggest payday he will ever get outside of a Garcia rematch or maybe a Tank fight.

"They like having their logo on the poster, but they didn't want to lose money, and that’s why they didn’t bid.”

DAZN/Matchroom haven't gained anything from this Haney individual. Yet he's complaining as if they owe him the moon and the stars. He's one of the lucky ones who got massively overpaid during DAZN's initial entry into boxing. His contract eventually expired, but then he still insisted fighting on the same promoter/platform because no one is making him any offers. Not Floyd/TMT, not PBC. As a free agent, fights like Gamboa, Linares, Diaz were all courtesy fights for him by Eddie Hearn.

The Kambosos opportunity came and DAZN passed it on to Top Rank. Lucky for him the Ukraine war started. Otherwise, Lomachenko would have been the deserving undisputed title holder.

Instead of continuing to take shots at Haney - who did everything in a professional, proper manner leading up to the Garcia fight but had the misfortune to be in the ring that night with a guy who was totally unprofessional and was pumped up on PEDs - the Ryan Garcia fanboys should focus on starting a GoFundMe account for their hero after he’s successfully sued by Haney.

Eddie Hearn has been good to this guy. He had his own plans for Regis, who is his fighter. He could have made Catterall vs Prograis in the UK, but then this Haney fellow forced himself on Hearn again and wanted Prograis. And since Haney wanted huge money, Eddie compromised by doing it on PPV, which didn't sell.

This May all be true, but I have a feeling Hearn will suddenly find a renewed interest in working with Haney - and worming his way into having some involvement in the lucrative Haney-Garcia rematch - after his main ticket AJ gets knocked out in devastating fashion by Dubois. Once that happens, I have a feeling you won’t be hearing Hearn making snide remarks about Haney wanting his promotion company’s name on the poster - in fact, he’ll be groveling and promising Haney the name will be even more prominently displayed on the poster for Haney-Garcia Ii.
