The question is: who do you WANT to win? Not who you THINK will win.
Going from that, this fight raises an interesting dilemma. I like both fighters a great deal; probably two of my favorites amongst a myriad of great fighters, but at the end of the day, I want the right person to win, no matter who it is. Above all, I admire the sport more than I do any one fighter.
But, fights (and fighters) stir our emotions whether we want to admit to it or not - probably more than our critical thinking skills at times - and so you obviously cheer when a fighter you admire wins as much as you may feel a tinge of sadness if they lose. When it's two guys you admire and you want to see both succeed, how do you reckon with your feelings when one or the other must face a loss? Some people shrug and move on, some people write lengthy blog posts, some people argue about it for days/weeks/months/years. To underscore your feelings, can you maybe name some past fights where two guys you really liked had to face one another? Did you fall more on the "may the best man win and that's that" crowd, or did you experience a deal of mixed emotions going into/during/post-fight? Or did you fall somewhere in the middle?
I would love to read some examples if anyone is interested. I'll have a think on some of mine but with Bivol and Beterbiev, I can say it's the first fight in a pretty good while where I don't want either to lose.
Thanks!
