Usyk forced to vacate IBF heavyweight title so they can give it to the winner of Joshua v Dubois

Oleksandr Usyk said Tuesday that he is vacating his IBF heavyweight title, calling it his "present" to Anthony Joshua and Daniel Dubois ahead of their Sept. 21 bout.

    What an absolute joke.

The IBF should simply cease to exist.

They are breaking up the undisputed heavyweight championship of the world to give their belt to the winner of a fight between a guy Usyk knocked out with a jab and a guy Usyk beat twice by 12 round decision.

The IBF has absolutely no justification to continue to exist. They have absolutely failed the boxing public.

Does this mean that the Interim Champ, Dubois, now gets elevated to full Champion? With other sanctioning bodies that's usually how it works, but Lord knows how things work with the IBF who seem to do most things differently!

If DDD is elevated, it will finally mean he's a real heavyweight champion, as opposed to the WBA regular title which has never been considered legit in the eyes of boxing media and fans. Whether he's a credible champ, given how he received the belt, is another matter. He'd definitely be a title holder if IBF elevated him. Imagine how much Hrgovic is kicking himself right now!

It does look like Usyk wasn't kidding about going down in weight though. This looks like a prelude to him switching to Bridger or Cruiser after the Fury rematch.

Good. Usyk has proven himself to be number 1 anyway and will go down in history as undisputed. A chump like fury doesn’t deserve 2 cracks at undisputed, we all know he wouldn’t have honoured the rematch if he had won.

Huge respect to IBF. They seem to be the only body that actually enforces mandatories, you lot usually cry about how the others don’t so don’t cry when they do.

The reason you crown a champion is to recognize the best fighter in the division. Not to fill a vacancy, not to move people through the rankings, not to get sanctioning fees. Usyk is very obviously the best fighter in the division. For the IBF to take their belt is for them to admit they have no reason to exist anymore. They have failed their mission.

The IBF is strict so if you don't fight your mandotories you will be stripped. I personally don't have an issue with it since we already know who the best in the division is.

So the whole division should wait so this rematch can go ahead if it goes ahead? It was postponed twice before the first fight went ahead, got to keep the division moving. Usyk has clearly proven himself to be number 1, he doesn’t need any belt. Who cares if aj/ddd are ibf champs? Let them fight for it, they earned a crack at it, that’s how rankings work.

Their rankings are worthless and their belt shouldn't exist if their "champion" is a fight between a guy Usyk knocked out on a jab and a guy Usyk decisioned twice.

They didn't "earn" anything. Hrgovic was a trash fighter who didn't even beat Zhang. Both DuBois and Joshua have proven in a total of 3 fights that they are not better than Usyk.

If we know who the best in the division is then anyone trying to hand their belt to someone else should be laughed out of existence.

At this point. the IBO heavyweight title is more legitimate than the IBF heavyweight title. Let that sink in.
