I personally don't agree with Residential Homes/Care Homes unless the person specifically wants this or they have no-one and cannot manage on their own. My mum insisted that she did not want to go into a care home when she got ill, so I moved in and looked after her with the help of care workers that came into the home a couple of times a day. I believe if these boxers have family they should be able to help look after them when they get old, after all our parents bring us into the world and look after us early on, so shouldn't we return the favour when they need to be looked after if at all possible.

Respect the hell out of you for it. My brother and I allowed our Mom to stay in her apartment with extra care and effort. Like you said... they deserve to spend their time as they want in their twilight years.
The large promoters & managers could very well already be giving to this or that charity anonymously. How would we know? There's no way to look into a man's soul.
As for forcing them to incorporate some sort of long-term care for retired boxers, that would result in smaller purses for the active fighters and higher ticket prices for us fans. Look at Social Security here in this country. It started off well-intentioned enough, but now it seems to be a financial disaster waiting to happen that Washington keeps kicking down the road. Family members taking care of the elderly and disabled used to be the norm. If you had no family, or they were unwilling or unable to help you, only then would you turn to a charity, non-profit, or the state. Where are these ex-boxers' family members, or close friends?
I'm sure the top brass at places like Matchroom and Top Rank worked hard for their money; who are we to tell them how to spend it? It's hard to turn a profit in any industry; the prev company I started was an utter failure. It ****** losing money. If I had succeeded and become rich, to then have someone tell me how I should spend it would be aggravating.
Finally, anyone who takes up boxing knows or should know they could end up punch drunk. But we do it anyway, b/c this is a great sport. :-)
