How much does that loss to floyd hurt marquez career?

I would argue that Floyd's best weight class was 130 but currently 147 is where he is best at and really can not go much lower (144 maybe if he wants to try).
I would say JMM right now is best at 135 not 130, he has gotten a little older so I think 130 would have started catching up with him in the near future had he hung around at that weight and he was looking good at 135.Last edited by Khalid X; 10-13-2009, 11:16 PM.Comment

In reality, this fight should not hurt him at all!!But since the fight happened, floyd is gonna use it to his full advantage for a while!!Where ever floyd's fan are, this is a huge accomplishment!!I wanted Marquez to win,but I knew he wouldn't,he should return to 135,140+ got too many good fighters!!Comment

I think in the short run it hurts him. I don't think he would the the Pac trilogy right away. Like he wanted to. IMO he was actually in pretty good position of getting it. If he instead would of rematched with Diaz. And, won The were would of been a great chance, after the Pac-Cotto fight, he would of fought Pac a third time at 140. But, now that does not seem likely since. Pac won't gain anything from a 3rd fight with JMM.
Now in the long run it won't hurt and very good chance it would benefit his legacy. He will be looked like a great fighter who dared to be great. Who took a high risk. And, a warrior who was out of his weightclass challenging maybe the best of his era. And, lasting the distance. When we look back at JMM. We will say he was the best out of the 3 musketeers (Barrera, Morales). Argubly an ATG. And, maybe top 5 greatest Mexican of all time. He would get the same respect that Duran got for losing to Hagler. Even though Duran did a better job than JMM. But, it will be very respected.Comment

I was talking about best weight class now. Marquez skills won him titles at 135 just like Floyd's skill won him a title at 154. I just feel both boxers are better at a division below that. I also feel Marquez can still make 130, but that is just me. During the Diaz fight, we saw signs of Marquez being in a higher division than he should have been, and I think he was only there to begin with because he was chasing Manny Pacquiao.Comment

I was talking about best weight class now. You know floyd isnt even making 140 at this point let alone anything below that. Marquez skill won him titles at 135 just like Floyd's skill won him a title at 154 but you and I both know they are better at a division below that. Also any boxing fan knows that during the Diaz fight we saw signs of Marquez being in a higher division than he should have been.
Also I would say I saw slippage in the Casamayor fight but that **** cost me an assload of money (betting on Diaz), the Diaz fight to me was a very good outing for JMM (IMO) even though it was a hard fight.
Floyd was a larger man then JMM no doubt and JMM to me messed up because he came in so heavy he should have come in smaller because no matter what he did Floyd was going to be bigger, it would probably have not changed much since I doubt he was hurting Floyd anyways but I think he would have looked better.Comment

Also he did something which is rarely done in boxing. Jump over two weight classes to fight the best without any fights to get use to the class
I mean who does that? And that is actually a testament to JMM's heart. With Mosely, De la Hoya, Trinidad, Mayweather etc...they always took an easy fight to get use to the class (sometimes a few) before taking on the Man at that division.Comment

I know I said Floyd could not really go any lower then 144.
