you ain't gotta back up from all that wild s**t he throwing he can't fight...you breaking that ho down...don't worry, they gonna rescue that mutha ****a...
Or how Roger is twice the trainer Freddie Roach will ever be and yet he gets half the credit? I can partially understand why that's the case when Roach is an attention whore who forces himself into the limelight telling every excruciating detail of how Manny's training is going to anyone who will listen, while Roger plays the background role like a trainer should.
But does that excuse Roach (arguably one of the most overrated trainers of all time) winning all these accolades while Roger rarely gets mentioned, and even more insultingly, has never won the trainer of the year award?
Roach's claim to fame is picking up a fighter who already had most of the tools he has today then catching his punches and making sure he's in the shot whenever he's on camera. Roger on the other hand almost single handedly molded a young Floyd into the greatest fighter of a generation. He has no losses on his record and without Roger's tutelage he wouldnt have been able to develop into the fighter he is today.
So with that in mind, am i the only one who thinks it's a travesty that Roger hasnt won the trainer of the year award? I understand he likes to speak his mind and can be controversial at times, but as far as trainers go, the guy's a living legend. I'm suprised noone's tried to boycott the Boxing Writers Association of America yet.
After he clears out the WW division within a years time you jealous snakes won't have any more excuses to downplay his greatness. It's only a matter of time.
Mayweather = Former & Last Lineal Welterweight Champion.
First 1.5 yrs as a pro, won a world title - without a title eliminator or interim title ... and in his first 17 or 18 fights
+ 10 consecutive years as a world champion
+ 5-WBC titles in as many weight classes
+ 6-time world champion, in his first 10 yrs as pro
+ All championships he won were off of reigning champions - no vacant titles -
+ He was a challenger in a fight 6 times and has a 6-0 2KO
+ 15 current/former world champions faced
23-title fights (23-0 record)
3 linear titles
all this happened during a streak of 39 straight victories and within the first 10 yrs of his professional career.
No one in the history of boxing has accomplished that without havinng taken a loss or more
He's only 1 championship away from tying the record held by Sugar Ray Robinson and thats winning 7 world champions ...
He's currently tied with Sugar Ray Leonard with legitimized championship in 5 different weight classes.
I'm not saying you have to like the man but he's one of the best of all-time ...
It also has been confirmed that (not including linear titles) Pacquiao has won titles in only 4 weight classes (with as many alphabet titles) and Oscar didn't have many legitimized titles ...

manny was nowhere near as complete a fighter as floyd was when roger took over for big floyd- you are an idiot (but we all know this). and yes you are the only one who wonders this- freddie trains way more than just one fighter to success. hey, how did roger's training of that haitian chick work out? maybe he should get trainer of the year for that.
LOL! This is ne of the threads where no one's defending the maker. Other diehard Floyd fans are avoiding the thread like ****. every one's owning him. A great indication that the claims of the TS are ****ty
So besides creating a Masterpiece, which many artist strive to do just once; what else is there to do?
had to say it
Any old thread polls asking: "If you were a fighter, which trainer out of the two would you go to: Roger Mayweather or Freddie Roach"?
If so, someone hit me up with the link and if not, maybe I'll make one but hopefully people don't use bias and can give fair points to back up their vote. Not a popularity contest but a "if I am a fighter and it is my life, my career that is going to be shaped...who do I want training me?"

Yup, Floyd Sr. built the foundation it seems as well as working with Roger when he was younger I think.
Sr. also likes to focus on a key weapon, the Jab...something Floyd could have used more of in some of his fights...like against Oscar.
