Comments Thread For: Wide Decision Another Step Forward for Xander Zayas

Xander Zayas doesn't have to fight like a world champion yet. What he accomplished Saturday night in blanking Patrick Texieira at Madison Square Garden Theater in New York was encouragement enough for now.

Nowadays, if you’re not getting dropped, hurt or KO’ed by journeymen and opponents who are placed in the ring with you for you to beat them widely or KO them…you’re a success. Too many young fighters think they are so great and act crazy for the camera and social media only to get exposed by journeymen.

If Zayas keeps on winning, he might just be the real deal. But it’s too early to tell.

I think he is the real deal and obviously time is on his side
Being only 21 and building off what he already knows and does well , I think he just might be the next superstar
He seems grounded and hopefully he sticks to the golden plan

Zayas might be the heir to throne for PR boxing, but as solid as he looked so far, he's still too young and is not ready to assume that position. Texeira, being his toughest test so far, did very little in the fight to gauge how far along Zayas is in his progression and Zayas just doesn't seem to have the type of power to really put hurt on top guys at 154. Let him grow into himself for a few more fights before taking on top competition.

He needs 2 full years since the corpse he fought gave no great indicators. No need to hurry at his age, he is not ready for the elite yet; guys with serious firepower.

Did not look impressive to me. Pretty basic fighter.
