Comments Thread For: Daily Bread Mailbag: Is Deontay Wilder Destined for Hall of Fame?

The latest Daily Bread Mailbag is here and, this week, the one and only Stephen "Breadman" Edwards reviews Deontay Wilder's chances of one day making it into the Hall of Fame, casts his eye over 'Tank vs. Frank', and - for the last time, folks - discusses the allegations surrounding Ryan Garcia.

Well hes been the no1 american heavyweight for a while, so give him credit for that. The americans have been low key of late.

I would say so. 10 title defences, highest KO % ever, a lot of memorable brutal KO's. And even though the Fury trilogy was the beginning of the end, he did almost win 2 out of 3 of those fights.

The bar for Boxing HOF is not set that high to not include Deontay Wilder.

Nobody gets credit for almost winning. Once he started fighting good competition, he started losing. The 10 title defenses and KO % had everything to do with the low quality of opposition he was facing. Does he really get in being 4th best in a weak era?

Wilder doesn't get in, for me. But then again, Ricky Hatton is being inducted this weekend so in this era the bar is being lowered.

Wanting the Saudis to control boxing is the most moronic thing I've ever seen in this forum

You think this is a weak era? I suffered through the Klitschko era where you had the Ibragimov's, Lyakovich, David Haye screwing around, then before that you had Ruiz, Skelton etc. Really having a Big 4 is a lot better than two dominant brothers(who won't fight eachother) crushing everybody far below them.

Also captain hindsight, the guys he's losing to recently were not much better than the opponents he crushed in the past. Secondly it's easy to act like he's 'exposed' now that he's in his late 30s and has all that mileage especially from the brutal Fury fights.

The question is not if Wilder is an ATG, the question is if he's a HOF worthy. Two very different things. Have you looked at the HOF list of HW's in it? You probably haven't. It's far from crazy to include the highest KO % ever with 10 title defences in a big 4 era.

I didn't think Gatti deserved to be inducted into the HOF so Wilder would be a definitive no for me.

People complaining about Shakur Stevenson being boring never watched a John Ruiz fight.
