With hindsight it wasn't the same Mike, but it was a version that had just won back to back title fights. While Holyfield had a few losses and a few unimpressive wins in his last few fights.

Fury was undefeated and lineal. Mike had an ABC belt and on his comeback. the real best heavyweight in the world was between bowe and lennox at the time and that fight wasnt happening. usky-fury was for the actual best heavyweight, so a bigger event for boxing fans.

holyfield-tyson was a bigger fight for mainstream fans and the general public. it was so huge i remember it before i even started watching boxing.

when tyson bit holyfields ear in the rematch it was all over the news. not sports news, not espn ect no just the regular nightly news and the regular new paper news. everyone was talking about it, it was crazy.

these days most people have no idea who usyk or tyson fury even are. its a completely different era. EVERYONE knew who tyson and holyfield were.

As a boxing fan, i dont really think its that a big a deal for tyson biting holyfields ear and the fight should be a NC instead of a DQ for tyson, i mean its a weird rule set where intentional headbutts are ignored or just given warnings but if tyson retaliates then hes the bad guy. I dont think the general public realized how blatant and notorious holyfield was with his head butts and how massive of a cheat it is if he gets a cut opened up with an illegal headbutt.
