I prefer the skill and coordination a boxer wearing gloves can provide since unless they have 1 punch KO power, they need to systematically break a dude down all while wearing gloves.
Bare knuckle is, after One FC style Muay Thai, probably the most exciting combat sport today in terms of the frequency of crazy fights. but the problem is the talent level just isnt there right now and probably never will be. The skillset isnt unique enough, its slightly modified boxing with a 00s MMA presentation. So unless they can compete with the kind of crazy pay boxing offers at the elite levels in order to bring in genuine world class pugilists, its always going to have a clear ceiling for talent.

Thats part of the reason why the best boxing matches are a lot better than the best MMA fights, they feel more epic, but its also why boxing matches that arent so great can feel like a slog in comparison. Obviously boxers have great speed, power and precision in their punches but then with the counts, bigger gloves and that its just punches coming it also means defence is way stronger so it offsets that. With MMA fights can and frequently do go from a 50/50 to being over in like 5 seconds. That can happen in boxing too granted, but its nowhere near as common.
Thats the beauty of being human we see things differently.

Thats a fair point. Even the guys that are specialists dont really get to demonstrate their art to its highest level in MMA because the rules dont really allow for it (striking for instance gets compromised significantly by the presence/threat of grappling and vice versa) and they dont get the right dance partners. Or theres the common occurance where you'll get say two elite grapplers and they instead have a striking match because they know they'd cancel each other out if they tried to grapple so its not worth exerting the energy.

Its weird though because on the one hand, yeah, most (not all) MMA fighters arent really great in any on area of fighting, but at the same time they're also the best fighters overall because of their versatility.
