The surgery is a 6-8 week recovery for most people. NBA players Joel Embiid and Karl-Anthony Towns came back from it in 8 and 4 weeks respectively just this season, and those guys are 7 feet tall and 300 pounds.

Had Beterbiev been 5 years younger and not injury proned he would have cleared the floor with just about anybody.. but he ain't.

Towns is 28, Embiid is 30. This was the second time Embiid had the surgery (he's the most notoriously injury-prone guy in the whole NBA having had multiple surgeries on both knees, his foot, both hands, his back, and his eye socket from multiple broken orbitals).

It's just a meniscus surgery. All they do is shave off the injured tissue and sew it back up. Chances are this will make Beterbiev develop some arthritis in the knee sooner as he ages, but it's not like he damaged the tendons or ligaments in the knee. Once the wound from the surgery heals and he gets the surrounding muscles back to full strength he should be fine.
