It was never really a big deal though, they were mostly dabbling in boxing. Skills Challenge were trying to put on events but apparently they weren't doing a good job getting fights over the line, so the Saudi Government put Prince Turkey in charge and its took off very quickly.
It's only really since "his excellency" got given the gig that it's gained serious momentum. Fair play to him though, he's a genuine boxing fan that knows fighters at all levels.Last edited by deathofaclown; 06-02-2024, 07:07 PM.Comment

In the great US, women could not until 1920 when women’s voting right was passed.
In the great US, it took the Civil Rights Act for black people to not be segregated against.
In the great US, the Housing Act was passed to give blacks a right at fair housing.
The US got its independence in 1776. These rights came almost 200 years later.
These are facts that one would assume you’d know. Saudi Arabia in 2017 passed regulations allowing women to drive, attend sporting events, hold positions in government etc. One would assume you’d know these facts as well.
Saudi Arabia is also hosting American football games. Nobody knows anything about it but they are embracing new things.
More important, boxers are paid what they deserve, much more than they would EVER make in the western world. So this is good for them. One would hope you’d see that point.Comment

I think you're really missing the point about allowing women into sporting venues. "a couple of them in the second row"? I'm quite sure they were carefully selected. Men want women in the building so we can fraternize with them. I wonder if after the fight was over did any foreigner ask one of those women if he could take her to a bar for a drink and then maybe to a hotel room for a nightcap? Are you allowed to do that in Saudi?Comment

then you obviously never attend fights in the USComment

Jealous of USA ????USA are basically the laughing stock of the world, trust me, nobody is jealous
Don't get me wrong, the UK is becoming just as backwards as USA.
i'm talking strictly boxing crowds, the USA often doesn't have a great atmosphere either but it's better than Saudi. Mexican Americans make a good atmosphere sometimes though. But the average American doesn't really get into it as much.Comment
