I'm curious on how you all feel about this given everything we know about CTE now.

If you had/have a son that wanted to pick up organized boxing, would you support his decision? Or would you encourage him to pick up another sport?

He's going to be in boxing regardless if he likes it or not. Once he has a good amount of fights, then he can decide to stay in or get out. I've developed national level fighters that could absolutely become world champions, but they had no desire to be great so I've told them boxing isn't for them. If I notice the slightest bit of a lack of discipline I won't coach them.Last edited by Lomadeaux; 06-01-2024, 12:26 PM.

I would support but with the caveat of making him take dance classes too and explain to him like Torres jr, he's going to have to give up a large portion of his childhood for this.

I'd be like Anatoly & teach him all the basics of boxing when he's real young.
Then, I'd either put him in other sports or dance classes to help him with his footwoork, agility, quickness, and athleticism.
Then I'd let him come back in his late teen, but not let him do heavy sparring or fighting until he's 17-18 when his brain has developed.

Unless a son is truly oblivious to his ineptitude at boxing, I would wholeheartedly support him.
If he is a bum in the making, I would show him why he should not pursue his dream and the consequences.
In the end, a person is going to do what they're going to do.
