Older people in the 1980s and 1990s said the same things about boxing then compared to boxing in the 1950s and 1960s.

In 30 years, people will be talking about what an incredible era this was.

Yeah, I definitely think how fans perceive losses nowadays is an issue. Alot of the people who complain that the best aren't fighting the best are also the first to declare someone with a single loss as a "bum". I'm sure alot of fighters (correctly) perceive gaudy records to have a direct correlation to potential revenue.

AJ Lebling has a great article he wrote in the 1950s about how people at the time were saying guys like Marciano and Archie Moore were bums compared to the guys that fought in the 1920s.

He the recalls seeing a fight in the 1920s a MSG, a heavyweight title semi final eliminator - the two winners would go on to fight each other for the right to challenge the heavyweight champion, the great Jack Dempsey. It was the same stuff you see today:

        Jess Willard - a shot ex-champion who'd come out of a 4 year retirement for a payday,
Floyd Johnson - a guy with a joke of a 38-2 record, mostly against 0-1, debut, 0-3 kinda fighters.
Jack Mccauliff - a guy with 9 fights, again with mostly 0-1, 1-12 kinda fighters. Had no business in an eliminator whatsoever.
Luis Angel Firpo - a guy who had lost to a man with a 6-8 record four years earlier, and had since fought a string of guys with club-fighter records, mostly in Argentina.

Firpo and Willard beat the tomato cans, and the fought each other in an abysmal fight for the right to fight Dempsey.

Dempsey crushed Firpo in what was considered an epic fight.

I think we're clearly in a good era. Don't like it, don't watch it.

This ^ is basically the nature of mankind in a nutshell. When people were still scratching pictures of mammoths with burnt sticks on cave walls I guarantee the clan elders would sit around the campfire bemoaning the weakness and degeneracy of the latest generation of young hunters and warriors.

In general I kinda doubt there are many astrophysicist boxing fans historically so no fooking clue what that means with the iq remark.

Idk who made you mad about PED usage but you should go argue with that person not with me.

I get the frustration fans have with out of the ring bs. Theres a ton of out of the ring stuff that makes zero sense for boxing to plenty of us.

But what happens in the ring should be respected & appreciated. And if you don't have that minimal requirement why are you even watching the fights? Go watch another combat sport. Go watch another sport. Just quit with the snowflake "look at me I'm so mad at boxing" bs all the time.

The problem is the internet makes young fans believe every fight from 1980-90 was Hearns/ hagler, Leonard/ Duran level.

Ryan cheating did ruin that fight and taint the sport yet again.

We’re not even half way through 2024. Plenty of time to have great fights, especially with the Saudis and Brits putting on a lot of cards.
All the fights of the elite this year were horrible, boring snooze fest s.

LMAO if i’m expected to pay fights, as a fan, then i have every right to expect a good fight, instead of some boring snoozefest which is 90% of boxing fights at the elite level now. Only three boxers have been entertaining and fun to watch: Crawford, Usyk, and Loma. Everyone else either cherry picks or just flat out sucks
