  • Comments Thread For: Gary Antuanne Russell's Mission: Climb the Ladder and Honor His Father's Name

When a former high school valedictorian and Olympic boxer born into a fighting family rips off a streak of knockout wins in each of his first 17 professional fights, he should be taken at his word when he claims to be "on a mission."

I think he might be the best of a pretty good lot. I don't see anyone at 140 I'd favor over him.

He's been under the radar. They know how good he is, or better than good, so they're not keen on facing him.

I wish him the best. I think he could beat anyone in the division. His toughest challenge may be Lopez. Gary and Teofimo would be a heck of a fight, but I think Lopez is going up in weight.

He needs to get busy. Twenty seven and just 17 fights isn't enough activity , people will forget you , quickly. He should be fighting a minimum of three, or four times a year. I hate to see talent and primes wasted by inactivity.
I like how the promoter in Canada , Eye of The Tiger is doing, they have guys fighting within weeks of their last fights in some cases. Why not ? Staying sharp and constantly improving is the way to go.

He has to fight over once a year though…You rarely ever see this man’s name in a headline.

Valedictorian of his class in school? Gary Antuanne, you just picked up another fan. Good luck to you in your quest!

Needs to get active. Probably has to get away from PBC at this point.

None of the Russells fight regularly enough. I'm going to be generous & assume it isn't about PEDs & recycling, in that case it is about terrible mismanagement. IMO that is on the fighter. You only have one short career & if your manager & promoter don't deliver fights then change your manager & promoter.
