Usyk is a top 25 ATG

    Can’t deny it.

    Olympic gold medallist
undisputed CW champion during CWs toughest time. And now undisputed HW champion in an era of super Goliaths. Top 25 ever.

Well his career isn't over yet, but measuring by his peformance against his peers and in the context of 21st century boxing - which is the only objective yardstick we have in boxing (ie no P4P or mythical historic v modern match-ups which are essentially just opinions) I don't think that's a far fetched opinion at all. If we look at the history of modern professional boxing, arguably beginning with the NBAs first sanction of title fights in 1920 we're looking at a 104 year span - which we could arbitrarily divide into roughly 4 quarters. From each of those - under one way of looking at it - you'd expect maybe 5 or 6 standouts who you could call ATGs in each 25 year spell or generation - the latest of which would stretch from roughly the turn of the century up until today.

Would Usyks accomplishments rank him in the top 6 or so boxers of the 21st C.? That's for each of us to judge but I'd say it's not an unreasonable conclusion. Floyd and Manny probably locks and certainly Crawford, Inoue and probably Canelo at least with an argument. Who knows?

Anyways, not an answer but at least a perspective. One way of breaking down the question.

Edit: Note to self - this just provoked a train of thought that I want to get down before I have to go out

          Roughly 4 eras.. overlapping slightly

          1 Post WW1 / depression era - roughly 1920 - 1940/5.
          2 Post WW2 era - roughly 1945 - 1970.
3 Colour TV mass broadcast era / US golden era - roughly 1970 - 2000
2 International era / internet era - becomes fully global with new tech + post soviet space - roughly 2000 - 2024

It's not beyond the realms of possibility that the two posts you're referring to where made by different people lol

I'm pretty sure they were. I'm just amused by the sea change that happens after every big fight. People didn't even want to give him credit for beating Joshua back to back. That perspective sure hasn't aged well... That's part of why I value the posters who are consistent and support their positions with reasoning, even if I don't always agree with them.

I probably dont know enough about all of boxing history, but this seems like it could be about right. Def top 50 ATG

I will say that I know enough about HW boxing, that Im confident that Usyk is a top 10 HW of all time, even at his size (which is still bigger than Ali, Louis, etc.).
