Look at Radical post for the fighters he fought. Plus he had very good defense. He was one of the best defensive fighter of he times. And, he fought 20 round fights. Imagine how great his stamina was. I am not sure if any of the fighters from today could fight 20rds. The man was great.

He was also very much ahead of his time. Heavy weights during his era never fought defensively nor had much strategy with the exception of James Corbett (but he didn't have much power nor heart) Jack Johnson was one of the first if not THE first heavy weight champs that combined the sweet science of boxing with punching power

Jack was great and his fights are very entertaining. You should watch some of them. Last night I also watched his documentary and it was great. You should check that out and find out more about him. He was a funny dude.
