the one thing about being blessed with a trilogy like izzy-rafa, it takes ALOT out of both fighters....i hope izzy still has one or two elite performances left

If a guy has a layoff and comes back and does well they say he was rested. If he comes back and struggles they say he had ring rust. So, basically no one is able to say definitively what a layoff does to a fighter. Only in retrospect do they even know what to call it, depending, of course, on his performance. I wish they would just stop using those terms as explanations for a fighters performance. I place it in the category of 'intangibles'.

I agree with you, though, on the eventual Monday morning quarterbacking that comes with evaluating such scenarios. It seems the only constant is that the comeback opponent of choice is often (if not always) an immobile punching bag, at least on paper.
