the one thing about being blessed with a trilogy like izzy-rafa, it takes ALOT out of both fighters....i hope izzy still has one or two elite performances leftComment

He had to rally just to pull within a draw heading into the ninth. Nor was it even clear prior to the eighth round that he would even win the damn fight. Not exactly sure what you're dis*****g.Comment

I think it's best for him to just retire. I think Rafael Marquez may possibly still have something to offer though.Comment

If a guy has a layoff and comes back and does well they say he was rested. If he comes back and struggles they say he had ring rust. So, basically no one is able to say definitively what a layoff does to a fighter. Only in retrospect do they even know what to call it, depending, of course, on his performance. I wish they would just stop using those terms as explanations for a fighters performance. I place it in the category of 'intangibles'.Comment

It's similar to when a fighter (or a team, in other sports) suffers a personal tragedy. If they win, the claim is that they were inspired and were playing with added incentive. If they lose, it was a distraction that was too difficult to overcome. If a guy has a layoff and comes back and does well they say he was rested. I agree with you, though, on the eventual Monday morning quarterbacking that comes with evaluating such scenarios. It seems the only constant is that the comeback opponent of choice is often (if not always) an immobile punching bag, at least on paper.Comment
