For me Canelo's continued failure to fight Benevidez is a big problem.
it has been going on a long time. Which ironically is making things worse for C as B gets more experience.

It is disrespectful to the sport in every way.
    To the belts.
    To the commissions.
To fellow fighters including B who has more than earned his shot.
And most importantly to the fans.
We, the fans, make their lives and fortunes possible.
Canelo seems to have forgotten all of the above.

I was big C fan from way back. Sadly I've lost a lot of respect for him

I honestly can't see how anyone can defend this behavior.

He talks a lot about his legacy. This will absolutely damage his legacy more than would a fighting loss.

You have to read between the lines with this writer. He's a pbc apologist to the core. Boots jumped ship ? He wasn't signed to pbc, just affiliated as Bread later writes. And the thing about Benavidez being drunk. Isn't this the middle of training camp ? And this writer doesn't care? People try to make an equivalence between Canelo post fight celebration and Benavidez in the midst of training. Foh

I am a fan of Breadmans column on Saturday. I would like to respectfully disagree with something Breadman has mentioned in his column. I must respectfully disagree when Breadman says Malik Scott is a good trainer. This is grossly in accurate. Malik is a yes man for a trainer and his fighters especially Wilder never seem to be taught some basic fundamentals such as footwork. and defense.

Anither trainer that Breadman seems to regard is Jonathan Banks who is another below average trainer. Manny Steward thought Banks was a lazy trainer who he often told to go home when he was an assistant in the W. Klitschko camp. Banks like Scott is another yes man.

Maybe Breadman just shows respect for anyone in the trade, which I can understand. But, I believe it’s better to sometimes say nothing rather than give unwarranted props to others. When I say what I write here, I’m speaking from personal knowledge and not from something or some third hand rumor. Both Scott and Banks are below average trainers and that’s a fact.

Last, while I understand that Manny Steward is a HOF trainer, I will say that as a chief second in any fight, Manny, IMO was one of the best ever. Manny was also a boxing whisperer who could fix flaws in many fighters like Lennox Lewis, and Wladimir Klitschko. But, what people don’t really know is that most of Manny’s protégé were not trained by him at the Kronk Gym. That credit must be given to the old school trainers that worked every day in that gym and taught the craft to the legends in that gym that Manny never gave credit to, such as Bill Miller, Luther Burgess, and Walter Smith, to name a few.

One might ask if Banks was a below average trainer, why did he become Klitschko’s trainer when Manny passed? Klitschko was lied to and told that Manny, on his death bed wanted Banks to take over. That was and is an absolute lie. But an interesting story for another day.

Trainers like Bill Miller, Luther Burgess, Walter Smith, Ray Arcel, Eddie Futch, Tommy Parks, and Nacho Beristian don’t exist in boxing today. There is not one trainer in the game today that can even come close to those legends.

Truth be told, Julian Chua and Malik are both TRASH trainers and "yes" men to the core.

Sounds more like you’re a Canelo apologist and just wanted bread to go in on Benavidez because Benavidez is the guy making Canelo look like an embarrassment. Yeah, it’s probably not a good look to be drinking but his training camp started this week, not last weekend. So him having a drink before starting camp is really not a big deal and certainly not a bigger deal than canelo taking a banned substance during a training camp. So no need to get all high and mighty.

Let me say this. Like Breadman, I was being nice. Scott and Banks are terrible “ yes man” trainers.I know this because of inside knowledge. Like I said, not anecdotal.

I watched Holmes vs Witherspoon years ago. Great fight. Really high skill level from both and very entertaining.
It was very close but I had Holmes winning, and no way did Spoon win "8 or 9 rounds".
Pretty arrogant of you to state so emphatically that he did.

Terrible Tim Witherspoon is a super nice dude and a member of these forums. Check out his Youtube channel if you haven't seen it, man just loves talking about boxing. He teaches, he analyzes, he reminisces. Good stuff.

I agree with Breadman when he states that Tim Witherspoon beat Holmes. I’ll add another one to that. A young Maurice Harris ( probably one of the most talented heavyweights ever) did too. Harris was the undisputed heavyweight champion of the world in the gym.

Don’t believe me, ask Mike Tyson, Roy Jones Jr, Lennox Lewis, Shannon Briggs, Al Cole, Tim Witherspoon, W. Klitschko, Ray Mercer, and Hasim Rahman to name a few. These fighters sparred Harris and know exactly what I’m talking about. A tremendous underachiever who was claimed by the streets. Scary talented!!! Talent like you never see in a heavyweight. At least I never saw a heavyweight with his talent and athleticism including the Greatest himself Ali, (you heard right). Mo Harris a living gym legend folks with the heart of a pea. But on any given day, if his head was right, and he wasn’t on something, he was unstoppable and all the fighters I named above will attest to that 100%.
