For example you can take 5M & get 10% of the PPV money or take 2M & get 25% of the PPV. This is just a more extreme example of that & likely bad business/advice by their team more than anything else.
That's what I mean when I say that the fighter's team is supposed to behave as the "Oversight". Sometimes, a fighter's team can give them bad advice. I think Kovalev was given bad advice because neither guy was a proven PPV attraction. It just seems crazy that a boxer doesn't get a purse for their most significant fight. Boxing truly is the wild west of sports. At the end of the day, Kurbanov agreed to the terms, stepped out of his comfort zone in Russia and got his ass kicked. He hadn't fought in almost a year, so it's possible he accepted the opportunity partly out of desperation. To fight for free is a painful reality. Assuming that Madrimov fought under similar terms, at least his gov't (?) gifted him a car when he got back lol

I always talk about the danger of boxers becoming complacent once they've reached the 7-figure bracket....but a fighter must be absolutely starving for opportunities if he accepts a title fight for NO purse. How does a sanctioning body get paid then? There has to be more to this story.

If he'd made $20M he'd have looked like a genius tho lol. Thats the risk one takes. To me thats more about business than boxing. Boxing is capitalism in sports on steriods & ppl make great deals AND bad deals every day. It sucks but ppl win & lose in business just like in the ring. I do wish more sh^t in boxing was structurally built to make more sense more often tho.

Good point on the belt group 3% lol. Those mfers definitely getting their 3% or that fight ain't happening.

seems like ward swiped kovalevs titles on a dodgy decision & roc nation gave him a 6.5 mil guarantee in the rematch with kovalev getting no guarantee whatsoever based on a poor ppv showing on the first fight so yeah he got doubly shafted by the looks of it to me anyway, no wonder he hit the vodka big time
