Comments Thread For: What Does a Boxing Equivalent to UFC 300 Look Like? Ask Bob Arum

As boxing effectively steps aside to let UFC 300 and its combat-sports sibling enjoy the spotlight, we wondered: Is the sweet science even capable of staging this deep of a card given the contrasting financial models?

“I have to feed all those who work for me, and then keep making money so I can keep them all employed,” Arum said.

That is what keeps him going at his advanced age - a sense of duty and responsibility - sends subliminal messages to the body that it's not time to die yet

There is no equivalent. Even these "big" Saudi cards that costs a fortune are only really comparable to a run of the mill monthly UFC PPV.

Its a financial thing though like Arum says. To make something like UFC 300 in boxing it'd cost 100+ million in purses. The payroll for 300 is probably more like 20m if not even less.

Oscar, Bob, and Eddie, just give us the equivalent of a card with Tank headlining, and Benavidez in the co-main! Can I get that?

I like Alex Pereira, he's a kill or be killed fighter. Unsure who the dude is he is fighting though.

The Co main event is 2 lesbo chinese girls < not interested.

Gaethje vs. Holloway is the fight I want to see.

          Olivera vs. Tsurkyan, who cares?

Bo Nickal vs. Cody Brundage? Who cares?

UFC does great cards all the time, unsure why this 1 is being so talked about. It's OK but it's really no better than Canelos upcoming card.
          Lol agree. Overrated af.

The UFC has been moving more & more away from name guys & are just a well oiled machine of this guy vs that guy in the almost no fan able to attend Apex venue for most of their shows to reduce expenses. They have fewer draws than ever & the value is all in "The UFC" over fighters these days. It was always hard to become a GSP or Conor, but its even harder now.

Oliveira/Tsarukyan might be the highest level fight on the whole card. Thats way up there as one of the most anticipated fights for most MMA fans.

Bo Nickal is a super high level collegiate wrestler, probably a future title challenger and unless he gets derailed hard hes probably gonna be one of the UFCs biggest stars 2-3 years from now. Theres always interest when he fights.

Even outside of the PPV portion of the card theres Jiri/Rakic, Aljo/Kattar, Kayla Harrison making her debut against Holly Holm, Cody/Figgy, Turner/Moicano, Green/Miller. 299 was probably a little better but the card is still deep as ****.

            Opening card:
Estrada vs. Esparza or Valle rematch.
            Bam Rodriguez vs Gallo Estrada
            Conceicao vs. Navarette (rematch)
            Matias vs Cruz (co main)
            Canelo vs. Benavidez

^this would sh.t on anything UFC could do^

In terms of actual star power? no ****ing way. Outside of Canelo/Benavidez every name there is less known than like a dozen plus names on UFC 300.

Even ONE has had way better cards than UFC 300 on many occasions. Most weren't even PPV. UFC 300 isn't anything special at all.

One X. Huge event with lots of their biggest stars. Free on YouTube.

ONE on Prime 1 Johnson v Moraes 2. Pulled out all the stops for the US debut. And free on Prime.

ONE on Prime 3 was a good card. 3 title fights, and good names even in the openers. Ditto 5, with Malykhin v RDR.

One Fight Night 6 Superbon v Allazov where Superbon got dethroned. That was a huge card with many of their biggest names. Free on YouTube.

                  ONE on Prime 10.

ONE Friday fights 34 Rodtang v Superlek.

ONE 165 Superlek v Takeru for their Japan debut.

And there was Tawanchai v Superbon also.

Those One cards are massively filled up with muay thai fights and other rulesets, they're very entertaining yes but its not even primarily an MMA promotion these days. When it comes to MMA they dont have anywhere near the roster to compete with big UFC cards as far as star power and fighter quality. Even Bellator has a much better roster MMA wise.
