  • Should retired fighters be allowed to be commentators without any qualifications?

Aware I am being petty, I can respect Timothy Bradley and Sergio Mora as fighters, but they very often put down and ruin fighters as they are swayed so very easily by any outcome along with the casual fanbase. There is even those who show their bias to a certain corner like Claressa Shields.

But then are guys like Gabe Rosado and Shawn Porter who actually put aside their bias, are neutral with the outcome and speak from experience about what professional boxers are doing while the fight is going.

If I did listen to the commentary while watching a fight (I personally put the fight on mute, because I don’t need anyone else telling me what I am watching) I would prefer to listen to someone who actually knows what they are talking about then some “expert” who never took a punch in their life

Every commentator I ever listened to in the past was biased in some way without exception

    Everyone is human

The best ex-fighter commentators that I enjoyed listening to were

Bob Chez, Roy Jones, Antonio Tarver, and Paulie

I will give Claressa a pass of sorts because she's still an active fighter and was just moonlighting as a guest commentator but she didn't hide the fact of who she wanted to win.

Mora and Bradley are bad. I like Porter but sometimes he gets too excited and trips over his words. Rosado is pretty good. I liked RJJ's commentary.

Some bad ones from the past are Lennox Lewis and Sugar Ray Leonard...it was hard for me to believe they were former champions because they didn't sound like they knew anything about boxing.

Depends on the fighter, does anyone want to hear Adrian Broner on commentary?

I kinda want to, also wondering if Rolly's personality is entertaining as a commentator. Even if he makes some absurd statements.

Why not? Our politicians get away with it.

One thing I remember vividly is listening to Sean O'Grady gushing over Roy Jones, the first time Roy fought on Tuesday night fights

And everything Sean said like “we are witnessing an all time great” came to pass

Because he was speaking from true experience and knowledge in the sport of Boxing

I miss Jim Lampley, for me he is the voice of boxing.

Don't know what you all have against my boy Timmy... I like him a lot... I despise Ward as a commentator though... To much "preaching like a priest"...
