Has Davis proven himself? (serious)

Proven as what? He's a p4p level talent, but I don't remember him proving himself to be the very best in any single division. The way I view Tank is as an incredibly talented prize fighter.
He has the talent to carve out a very impressive legacy for himself but has instead used his gifts to make the most money possible without taking certain risks that could have propelled him to greatness if he would've taken them and done well.

He's proven he can make plenty of money while never fighting a real challenge, and putting restrictions on anyone that might look like a harder fight...
His career is long past the point that eye test is relevant. At this point, it's pretty obvious he's choosing not to test himself. If people want to idolize a fighter like that, that's their choice. At least Mayweather fought a lot of champs, whatever else people want to say about him. Tank's only real accomplishments are at 130.MusoMeanderings likes this.

He's proven good enough to beat B and C level guys impressively (although the Pitbull fight was tough and competitive). He's also proven himself lacking the necessary courage to take risks and test himself against the best fighters in his division.
Everybody focuses on speed and power, but boxing is as much mental as it is physical and courage is a crucial intangible attribute which is every bit as important to a fighter as other more lauded tangible ones. In an amateur tournament if you refuse to come out for your next fight, you lose. Therefore, for me at least, Tank sits below his main rivals at 135/140 by default, which is a shame given his talent.MusoMeanderings

well its been 7 and a half years since he won his first title and hes beaten 3 top 10 guys(none in the top 5) and only 2 if you dont count rehydration clauses. hes constantly fought teeny tiny men and unknown bums. hes lost many rounds to guys like cruz, fonseca, romero, santa cruz, barrios, etc...seems like they know he will be exposed if he takes any real risks so they dont.charliepaerker likes this.

He never beat anybody very good.
He has some solid wins, like drained Garcia, Cruz etc..but these are not great wins.Last edited by JakeTheBoxer; 04-02-2024, 05:27 PM.MusoMeanderings
