  • Golden Boy's Gomez Shocked With Jorge Linares Loss

When Golden Boy Promotions signed Jorge Linares of Venezuela to a promotional contract last month, it seemed like a sweet signing. But it turned sour over the weekend when Linares was decked twice and stopped in the first round by Mexico's Juan Carlos Salgado in Tokyo, Japan. Linares (27-1) suffered his first loss, and he lost his super featherweight world title. [details]

I think he can beat Salgado in a rematch, the shot he was caught with was just one of those things that can happen to anyone.

yes but the ones who really get to the top are the ones who, for some reason aren't put away by it. can u imagine how boxing would be if pro fighters had to have perfect defenses everytime? Once in a while we get a floyd mayweather who should probably keep us wondering whether he has a chin until his mid 30's but the rest of them need to have a chin. no matter how much they train, who the trainer is, how much they want it, if they are one punch weak then forget elite boxing.

I've always thought his chin was shaky, ever since I saw him get knocked down a couple of times by smaller guys at 126 early in his career but the punch that put him down and virtually ended the fight was a punch that landed on the temple, it's a soft spot and once you get hit there, it's pretty much over. Unless you have some kind of Marvin Hagler-ish punch resistance, you're gonna get your wires scrambled when you get hit there.

It was a shot that landed in the perfect spot, landed right where it short circuits everything. It's like saying Lewis couldn't have beaten Rahman.

I think Linares is just too ****y of a fighter, even after being dropped in his last fight he wasn't paying attention to Salgado who was rushing him trying to kill him. Hopefully this loss will get him more focused and humble as a fighter, just like Juan Ma last night it might help the fighters in the long run.

People are saying Golden Boy is cursed, I say Boxing is cursed for the last few years most the prospects have been losing. Golden Boy should sign Salgado now imo, you can't build stars you have to let the best fight the best and it will all settle itself on it's own.

agreed with the bold....i don think linares was being ****y though........he just didnt recover, plus salgado was waaay far off the corner when the ref motioned him to continue, salgado was already at the middle of the ring, linares coulnt even get out of the corner................

Yeah he might of been hurt but he seems to be too relaxed in fights, he has a tendency to try to stand with his hands down and might have had the confidence that he couldn't be hurt. If you see a lot of his fights he moves away from punches and the punches come very close to clipping his chin, he might of thought he was Neo from the Matrix and found out he was human after all.

                    **** Goldenboy....

After what these ass clowns did to Marquez, it's always gonna be f*ck Goldenboy. Marquez was meant to shine in his later years, the man deserved that much. Yet these ****in greedy ass grease balls carbon coppied Arum's style and sacrificed Juan just for the sake a few dollars that Mayweather brings in!?

It doesn't take a genius to know that it's Mayweathers opponent's that bring in the cash, and these ****in clowns would carry Marquez into a fight that doesn't even have a contracted weight limit when' hes basically comin out of the FW division!?

                    And there's no Goldenboy curse...

Ortiz got stung early, he toughed it out as long as he could, until he couldn't take it anymore. Ortiz is just guilty of bein one dimensional, he can't adjust. The kid had minimal heart and no other fight plans. Linares though, lol dude gets signed as quick as he get's takin out....all that money invested in this kid, and the guy gets lit up.

Excuse me if i don't find that as a coincidence in justice.

This isn't even about Marquez, but I made it about Marquez
