Robles certainly isn't a journeyman but I'm not sure he's exactly a "champion" either. Frankly Davies defeated a decent guy who was the best opponent he has faced so far but still also slightly favored to win, though to give credit where due the way Davies did so was certainly more impressive than expected prior to the match.
That being said, Davies is currently ranked #5 in WBC, #14 in WBA, #8 in IBF and #10 for the Ring Super Bantamweights ranking (unranked in WBO). He KOed Robles in a convincing fashion which probably would peg him up a few more ranks, but probably not enough to entice Inoue to stick around 122 beyond 2024 after he's finished with Nery (#1 WBC mandatory, former multi-division world champion including 122), MJ (#1 WBA mandatory, former unified champion of 122) and Goodman (#1 IBF mandatory and #1 WBO, no world titles but has defeated the likes of Ra'eese Aleem and TJ Doheny who's rated much higher than Robles). Honestly I'd say if Davies is really looking for an outside chance at Inoue his best bet is to try to get himself high enough on the WBO rankings to try to become the mandatory for WBO, as given Inoue's tendencies if he were to stay in 122 beyond Goodman then his next opponent would be his next mandatory (WBO).
Current WBO rankings as of March 2024:
1) Sam Goodman
2) Luis Nery
3) TJ Doheny
4) John Riel Casimero
5) Carl Jammes Martin
6) MJ Akhmadaliev
7) Mukhammad Shekhov
8) Ra'eese Aleem
9) Elijah Pierce
10) Ramon Cardenas
Goodman and Nery don't really count for eliminator purposes which leaves Doheny and Casimero as the next two. Casimero seems quite close to being washed up but still has the last bit of luster left on him and would be enough to get Davies on the WBO rankings for the potential eliminator fight. Of course defeating MJ or Goodman would be even faster but given that all rumors are pointing to MJ facing Inoue around September and Goodman in the end of the year, absolutely zero chance that those two will fight anyone outside possibly a stay busy fight prior to the undisputed cash bag fight.
