Benavidez got the favorable hype early even though Smith, Plant and Saunders all had better wins than him at the time, yet David refused to capitalize and instead ducked out on the other champs in the division. To further break things down (because the more you break things down the worse it looks for Benavidez lol):

Benavidez claimed his first vacant title by being allowed to cut in front of actual WBC #1 Smith. Smith complained so he was given a mandatory spot with "diamond belt" status which was supposed to entitle him to a title shot, but David dumped his belt rather than take the fight. Yildirim and Dirrell ended up fighting for the vacant title in a fight that was cut short on a headclash cut on Dirrell and ended with a controversial SD. Yildirim petitioned for the immediate rematch but the WBC pulled strings for Benavidez again and gave him the next shot at Dirrell while placing Yildirim as his other mandatory. What did David do with the belt this time? His manager Sampson dismissed Smith who had been petitioning for the unification, telling Smith to wait in line lol, even though Smith was the division top dog by then holding the WBA and Ring titles. Sampson also publicly rejected a Plant unification for the remainder of his time with the title. The WBC eventually ordered him to face his backed up mandatories Smith and Yildirim once and for all, and what did David do now? Dump his belt a second time despite knowing Canelo was lining up titles. Afterward, the WBC pulled strings for him again by giving a title shot at 175 but he ducked out yet again despite blowing weight by 3 pounds and ended up spending the next couple of years cherrypicking random gatekeepers Angulo, Ellis and Davis then topped it off by fighting GGG/Saunders' washed middleweight leftovers Lemieux as his only fight of '22 which David still brags about to this day like it was a legacy fight lol.

David finally took his version of a career step up fight but that was fighting one of Canelo's leftovers and instead of making a statement got taken the distance so he immediately stepped down his opposition against a guy moving up who'd never faced or beaten a champ even in the lower divisions. And he just walked away from an offer just to take another random fight nobody is going to pay to watch. Meanwhile Canelo did the work David ducked out on and has faced 8 reigning champs plus 2 mandatories in his past 10 fights whereas David faces the inferior opposition ducking out on the fights he took along with being less active, but people are out here pretending he's an ambitious fighter when he spent his career padding his 0.

you are trying to explain away 5 years of ducking and its just not going to work. benavidez has a much better resume than those guys so you cant make it about resumes. thats been disproven. also canelo himself said benavidez has to fight the top guys and guess what happened? #1 benavidez beat #2 plant and still canelo refused to fight him. hes full of sh-it! a fraud! when did canelo tell munguia or charlo that they have to beat the top guys to get the fight? oh yeah he didnt and oh yeah they certainly didnt beat any top guys. you are defending a ducking coward. pathetic

Jon Jones in the UFC might have something to say about that record too. Sat out for 3 years to avoid Ngannou, came back the day he left, and fought the guy Ngannou beat with one leg and his worst skillset (wrestling) to win the belt. Now is targeting the other most recent Ngannou leftover, who hasn't fought in 3 years, or had a win in 4 years "for his resume" then wants to retire with just those two "wins" at HW. Yet he's being acclaimed by the UFC fans as the best ever to do it. Also got busted for PEDs like Canelo.

          Disappointing.

            this is prize fighting.
That’s not the reason canelo doesn't want to face him, it's not about ppv or hof, he knows he is getting paid handsomely, probably his best-ever purse, the reality is that he would have to work for that check, and maybe would not be enough to take the win home. He knows there is going to be pain like never before, and you guys know that too, why you're keeping excusing this duck is beyond comprehension, is your fanaticism that deeply ingrained in your brain? That you have to avoid seeing him lose a fight, and still trying to justify why he is not fighting the guy. What kind of man would say that he doesn't fight Mexicans when benavidez was on the horizon, and once the ship arrived at his shore, he completely went back on his word and now is fighting a lesser Mexican. Do you really think he's that great when less than a dozen fans are scrambling to find an excuse to make him look decent, because he will never look great, not while having benavidez shadowing him. And I think he has a better chance of beating benavidez than the one the monster ducked, the one that still in the SMW division.

Benvidez's resume is on the same level as a Billy Joe Saunders before Canelo. That is a fair assessment.

He has done *** all to deserve all this **** riding.

Like everyone else nowadays, every fighter is guarding that 0 like it is their mom. Nobody wants to face a 50/50 opponent, they're some exceptions but you have to look througha magnafied glass to find one, and you need two in the same division. The $h1tty the opponent the better. Didn't benavidez said if canelo duck him he would fight Morrell Jr? No, he's fighting another andrade at 175.

                  that includes Benavidez.

why is he running away from Morell and fighting an old retired journeyman?

                  fight Morrell. Prime slick boxer.

When he surpassed the 5-6 years that it took for Gayweather/Pac, Beterbiev/Bivol, Dud/Spence to get made then you crying b.itches can call it a world record duck.
