I was thinking the same: while Fury and Wilder were doing nothing, Parker took himself under control with even higher-quality fights than AJ. But even the lower level of opposition AJ chose worked well for him. At the same time, the inactivity worked badly for Fury and Wilder.

Yes. All guys beaten at top level should take some notes. After a big loss take a step back and stay active. Fight some average guys and take some wins and you will make promotors and fans believers again. Joshua hasn`t had a big fight since 2 losses to Usyk, but people already believe he is top 3 again.

Destroying a non boxer has nothing to do with activity.

It's sort of a hidden issue that many top boxers often look like crap because they are usually coming back from layoffs. Almost always for no good reason, just typical boxing corruption issues.

Layoffs are not good for you win or lose. You stop evolving, you quit picking up new tricks and your mind just isn't as sharp anymore.

It does in the sense he was training for a fight and sparring. Unlike a lot of these guys who take a year out to talk rubbish on Twitter.

From a purists point of view, I would have preferred to see Joshua - Hrgovic last night. But I understand why last night's (mis)matchup was made and now we can all move on.

Being active obviously doesn't hurt. I would pick AJ to do the same thing to Francis, even with an 18 month lay off, though.

Half the forum was acting like Joshua had to prove he can fight not Ngannou and his life was in danger . Lol

The choice of opponents has a lot to do with it in the case of Anthony Joshua. Jermaine Franklin, Robert Helenius , Otto Wallin, and Francis Ngannou…not exactly Murderer’s Row there.

But being active is a good thing for fighters. Keeps them sharp and well tuned.

I think the first two bouts were tune-up performances, but Wallin/Ngannou was AJ firing on all cylinders. I would like AJ vs. Hrgovic next.
