Has one-fight-a-year become a standard in boxing and no longer a big deal?

Not a big deal anymore. It's even used as an instant excuse when the 'one fight a year' guy don't perform up to par.

I looked at top ten guys (tbrb & ring) in all 17 divisions about a year or so ago & the avg overall was guys fought 1x every 8mos or 3x every 2yrs. So its not quite THAT bad yet lol.

It's bad if you want to remain relevant. Imagine any sport that competes once a year eventually nobody will care about you. If the NFL each team played once a year nobody would care.

It's not a big deal. Just look at the comments in the Tsyu vs Thurman threads. But we'll still have to see the result of that fight.

Depends what fighter.. Big charlo is once every 3 years. One Time Thurman is every 5 years lol

It's based on a few things: the level of the opponent, the dollar needed financing cards being put on, marketing time, and to top it off, the world is in a financial recession everything is slowing down.

This is the big dilemma for fans.

I want to see boxing be huge and the fighters get paid well.

But anyone getting paid well isn't going to risk themselves unnecessarily.

If they get paid less they'll fight more, and make big fights more frequently.

As fans we actually want boxing to do worse. And it will happen. There will be another cycle.
