Canelo `s best noncontroversial wins are Trout, Jacobs, Cotto and 40 old GGG.
If that is enough to be a legend, well, than he is a legend.
Lara fight is debatable, Amir Khan't is his weakest win, BJS decent win, Callum Smith also ok but beterbiev destroyed him better, GGG 1 and 2 controversial but Canelo won the 2nd fight or a draw and GGG won the 1st one

I think alfonso gomez and mathew hatton are his weakest wins. All others are controversial or against past their prime fighters, jacobs is a real win and wasn't a route. He has no signature wins, like the great ones.

If Canelo isn’t giving him the fight “he has to make his own way”. Morell is also 168 and is deserving of a fight with Benividas but I don’t see benividas giving him the fight. You know why. Too risky.
The public isnt really calling for Benavidez and Morrell the way they are for Canelo vs Benavidez. Benavidez may be ducking Morrell but fighting the winner of Beterbiev vs Bivol wouldnt be a duck imo
I didn't see him lose, it was a controversy with the clock at the time of the stoppage, but Taylor was way more damaged than Chavez, he proved in the rematch too.
Im talking about the Chavez vs Whitaker fight. Not the Chavez vs Taylor fight. And by the way Chavez waited for years and for Taylor to fight at multiple weight classes higher and get knocked out to do the rematch with Taylor. Wouldn't exactly call that a true champion. Kind of cherry picking and would be looked at very differently if Canelo did that.
I don't like the guy, but he is the one that has fought the fighters I have mentioned. He underrated himself by waiting out ggg, by handicapping every boxer he has faced, always running from the best available and continues doing it, and the proof is in front of us to see it, there's no plausible reason for not to fight benavidez. Did I lie when I posted my opinion? I think Chavez beefed up his resume before he won his first belt, if my memory serves me well he fought Latigo Martinez for the 130 lbs belt, but he never hid from anyone and took on all comers. Compare the truly greats resume against that of canelo, take a look at Emilie Griffiths, Kid Gavilan, Mantequilla Napoles, Eder Joffre, Pacquio, Ali, Puas, Barrera, Morales, Marquez just to mention a few, and they all fought the proverbial bum of the month, it is understandable when you fight five, six seven fight at months, but the face of boxing who fights twice a year and makes 30M per fight, and he is going to defend the belt against ryder? And you have benavidez waiting to fight for the belt two years and counting, Morell jr has been waiting for three years, and you're fighting ryder. Common man, it is not only me, the backslash is huge. His manager just said that he doesn't think his legacy is tarnished if he doesn't fight benavidez. I have never seen something like that, can you imagine Angelo Dundee having a press conference telling the world that Leonard was not going to fight Hearns because his legacy was secured.
John Ryder was a mandatory and a legit top 5 contender. That wasnt the cherry pick. The cherry pick was moving 154 pound Charlo up 2 weight clasess
Let me put it like this. At 33 canelo is looking to fight welterweights,jr middleweights, and middleweights at 168. People who are either undersized, inactive,or very much outmatched in skill and power. At 34 and 36 chavez had the balls to fight a young and fresh Oscar, and at 38 he fought Kostya Tszyu, which was the ggg of back in the day. Say what you want about his record, but chavez 100% embodied the Mexican spirit of fighting. The same can't be said for canelo, who doesn't seem to want a fight in which he doesn't already have pre filled out scorecards,or multiple advantages going in.
Chavez took on 2 prime monsters in their prime when he was past his, in Oscar and Kostya, and he took his beatings like a man. Mean while Canelo ran from his monster to beat up bums. He just killed his chances for greatest mexican, and actually just slid further down the list. This will hurt his legacy.
