I disagree on that "great person" statement.

For every good thing Ali has done, he's done it to make up for a bad thing he's done.

It doesn't effect my respect for the man ; but I generally don't like it when people sugarcoat it and portray Ali to be saintly in fashion.

Not saying you are ; but a lot of the uninformed "fans" around here think of him in that manner.

He wasn't perfect, no man is, but he was a very good man, who fell under the influence of some very powerful dangerous people while he was young.

I was just musing on Ali's complexities, I consider him to be one of the more complex boxers in the sport's history.

I never see boxing writers or fans consider Ali as the greatest. Its always the casual fans and people that don't know the fight game inside and out that think he was the best. Most boxing people consider Robinson the best and there is rarely a debate about it. Not sure if you respect Sugar but he has Ali ranked number 7 of all time, just a fyi.
