David Tua's Legal Issues Cost Him Roy Jones Jr. Bout

According to New Zealand's Sunday News, David Tua was in serious negotiations to fight Roy Jones Jr. in 2003, when Jones won the WBA heavyweight title from John Ruiz. The fight talks was broken off when Tua became engaged in his ongoing legal war with his former management team of Kevin Barry and Martin Pugh. The case is still going in a New Zealand high court with appearances set for October 19 and 20.

this is what people dont know about roy jones, he actually tried to fight the best, he was crazy serious about takin on douglas before his father stepped in and his middle-supermiddle competition bailed on him, not the other way around, franky liles and steve collins ducked roy jones at 168 and that's why jones moved up

people should pay more respect instead of yapping their mouths about **** they dont know sayin he avoided every credible fighter

Please. At the height of his popularity Roy could have set up a fight with ANY fighter on ANY NIGHT OF THE WEEK if he chose to do so. I give him credit for challenging and beating Ruiz, but his HW career began and ended with Ruiz for a reason. He talked a lot about fighting the best HWs, but it was all talk; nothing more.

I didn't know this fight was ever talked about. Did Jones have a death wish?

Could have been brutal for Jones if he fought Tua like he fought Tarver and Johnson. If he was able to sustain the form that he had when he fought Ruiz, he would have stood a chance of winning.

I would not have put Jones anywhere near Davie Tua, but that's some interesting ****.
