Bradley is largely correct, though you could phrase it more accurately as: Canelo will do what is best for Canelo. And I would add to that: duh.

My big issue with Canelo is that he is being allowed to hold on to the belts. That is as much the fault of the alphabet orgs as it is his, but nonethless it is a disfavour to the sport and he does deserve criticism for holding the belts hostage and not giving a shot to deservinvg contenders.

I suspect Canelo views prospective fights as most fighters would: what's in it for me? The difference is that Canelo is in such a cushy position that usually an easy pay day is the most obvious answer.

Canelo has taken on good/difficult fights in the past because they would serve to enhance his reputation/legacy. That is why he started picking away at the LHW division -- until he bit off more than he could chew. He probably views it that there are no fights to enhance his legacy at SMW, and so he is just taking the easy money when available. This is understandable to me to some degree.

I think if he beats Benavidez, it doesn't do that much for his rep. People will automatically dismiss Benavidez as actually not being as good as they thought, Canelo was always going to beat him because there are levels to the sport, etc. But if Canelo loses, his legacy takes a big hit. So it's a bit of a hiding to nothing. If he gives up the belts, I don't think it's a problem.

He's on the last stretch of his career, kind of winding things down after finding his ceiling in the loss against Bivol. The rest is about beefing up his nest egg as best as he can, while not risking the rep getting tarnished by another L and ensuring he can get out of the sport with his faculties intact. I can't begrudge him any of this, apart from the belts. The orgs need to order him to fight Benavidez or strip him.

This is a lie. Fighters often avoid the biggest fights for self preservation

I was hoping he would have made the Benavides fight. I wanted to see him shut everyone up. If he was to beat David ppl would just call for morell. Similar to Crawford with boots. It’s never good enough

I couldn't have said it any better myself. As long as Alvarez feels confident that he'll win relatively easily, he'll take a fight. But if it looks like he may struggle or maybe even lose, forget it! Out come the excuses and outright defiance.

And that's what we the real fans wants, fight a worthy SMW or vacate the belts, let other boxers get the opportunity he was given.

He is a really good fighter who aged people out, cherrypicked and ducked mandatories. He never looked great when he faced really good comp. Yet he talks all of the legacy and greatness nonsense.

Apparently according to some boxing fans, all of that stuff makes for a smarter fighter because he is getting more money. And that is fine. But his "legacy" will be a cherrypicking, pompous little guy who got a bunch of dirty decisions because he is the A side. Yep he has millions. But HE is the one always talking about "chasing greatness". He brings the hate on himself by bull****ting so much.
I'd have a lot more respect for him if he just said "look, I fought lots of top guys already and I want money fights." Tell me that you're into it as a business, and I will adjust my expectations. But if you want to say you're thinking about how you're fighting for legacy or to be the best Mexican boxer or whatever, and I expect you to sign the fights to prove it.

Benavidez is the only one right now deserving the next shot. Followed by Munguia, Morrell, Charlo, MBilli, and last would be Berlanga.
