The interim title is a meaningless gesture because Benavidez will probably move back down, win or lose.
"What's the worst that can happen" Is what led to the slippery slope of 4 ABC groups with 2 champs in each class to begin with.

You dont see an issue with this? It sets precedent. The Current WBC Light Heavyweight Champion fought six weeks ago, and already has his next defense lined up. There is ZERO reasoning for an interim title.

Why couldn't they just make it "Winner is #1 contender?"

Hell, what happens if whoever wins decides they don't want to fight Beterbiev? You think Mauricio is going to be fair about that? or do you think he would think "David is younger and Mexican and a better seller. He should be the ACTUAL champ"

Precedent? Don't these sanctioning bodies have a clause in their regulations that allows them to make shxt up as they go along? Nothing is ever off-limits, their implementation of rules are extremely inconsistent. This is yet ANOTHER reason why the titles cannot be perceived as the end-all be-all of the sport. I've said this before, but NSB should have a stickied thread so we can track all of the sanctioning body drama.

So you think the WBC will manufacture a way to strip the Beterbiev/Bivol winner and give it to Benavidez? Could that be a step too far??

There's never a step too far with the bodies. Corrupt to the core.

Apparently David has said after this fight he wants to go back to 168 to fight Canelo still, so yeah 100% Mauricio would make him the main title holder if that's the case....and I hadn't even thought of that until now lol

I would love to hear WBC justify the stripping of Beterbiev/Bivol. How does an interim titlist get upgraded over a champion who's still active? Are we gonna start counting "interim" titlists like regular belts? So...Benavidez beating Gvozdyk would make him a two weight titlist?

Benavidez SHOULD be saying he wants to fight the Beterbiev/Bivol winner if he beats Gvozdyk. The fact that Team Benavidez would return to 168 illustrates their complicity in this soap opera.

SHO was ponying up the money
Now at they are out of boxing , no more money
Only makes sense when you wanna guaranteed 35 million to fight fughin Charlo
We might be ****** fans but not that ****** to see that boxing is getting killed by a few greedy fighters
PBC needs to realize the dream is over and if the rest of the promoters aren’t taking a look at this , they’re fughed also

Sulaiman already made that clear : the winner faces the other winner
So Benny or Gvodzyk vs Beterbiev or Bivol

Come on dude, you already know the answer.

                Beterbiev-Bivol Winner: Franchise Champion
                Benavidez: World Champion

I genuinely forgot about the Franchise champion tactic. That's why we need a sticky thread! lol

But if Benavidez intends to move back down, then the interim title turns out to be an empty gesture. Do we really expect Bivol/Beterbiev to avoid Benavidez? Maybe the plan is to strip the champion once they have to fight other mandatories, and upgrade Benavidez that way. By hook or crook, the sanctioning bodies will find a way.

You really believe the guy who’s having a hard time making weight now , is gonna go back down ?
First off I think it’s one of the dumbest things he can do and I’m not buying the he ain’t cutting weight going up bullchit
And o ne of the B’s would avoid Benny
Actually Sr mentioned Beterbiev’s name and Artur said let’s do it
And we never heard anything again , I wonder why ?
