so Benavidez and Munguia are no-noes as well. Stop bringin up their names, he won't fight them

not out of fear, lazyness or greediness. but because they're mexican

any non mexican boogiemen out there, he'll take them on

I can see Canelo challenging the Beterbiev/Bivol winner in the future

for now, he'll probably settle for Charlo, Mbili, Spence or Crawford

You know, I'm probably in the minority, but I do think that Canelo genuinely doesn't want to fight his countrymen.

He fought who he had to climb the ranks, but since his career's taken off, he's done a lot charity work and shown a lot of pride in representing Mexico.

Whether he'd fight Benavidez if he was Polish is still anyone's guess, but the guy's had 64 pro fights. If he wants to keep a few brain cells, f*** it I say. Holding the belts hostage though... oof.

I mean he held a Kazakhstan fighter at arms length how many years? If it’s a genuine threat he doesn’t want the smoke. And that’s fine but step out of the way and stop calling yourself the face of boxing. Go fight exhibitions if it’s only about the money.

If Canelo is the patriot you say he is, wouldn’t he feel a sense of obligation to help a fellow Mexican boxer earn the sort of life-changing money they would get from fighting a PPV marquee star like Canelo? Wouldn’t he want to make Mexican and Mexican American fans proud by fighting another Mexican to celebrate Cinqo di Mayo?

Come on. Canelo has made it to the top but he’s pulling up the ladder so none of his Mexican contemporaries can climb up to his level while he’s still around. And I really honestly don’t think his ego could stand losing to another Mexican fighter - so much so that he doesn’t want to even take the chance of fighting someone who would actually fight back (unlike Chavez Jr., who just wanted to cash his purse and survive without being knocked out).

              Wow, really “patriotic”!

Can Haymon even afford to pay Canelo vs Benavidez? He blew threw his investors money and it remains to be seen if Amazon will pony up for a big money fight with their deal with PBC.

I get that. He dragged his feet, but he did eventually step up and face GGG. A few times at that. He's not trying to go life and death with Benavidez, so he's just going to keep milking his status the way Mayweather did in his last fights.

He'll eventually hang up the gloves and put all his focus on golf, but until then, these guys are putting blood, sweat, and tears in the gym for a shot at one of the belts he's holding. Guys like Benavidez deserve their shot. It's a catch-22 though because if he gives up the belt without fighting him it hurts his money and reputation. #millionaireproblems
